Situated between the snow-covered Atlas Mountains to the south and the Sahara to the north, Marrakech is the fourth-largest city in Morocco. It is a major economic center and travel destination. Marrakech features a shop-filled medina inside the walls of the old city as well as the world-famous Jemaa el-Fnaa plaza, where modern customs meet ancient Berber traditions. The ramparts date from the 12th century. An old imperial capital, the city boasts several beautiful examples of Islamic architecture. Along with the iconic minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, points of interest include the Saadian Tombs, the Majorelle Gardens and the Dar Si Said Museum. Marrakech’s semi-arid climate produces summer highs in the 90s and winter lows near 50 degrees.

Getting to and from Marrakech

Marrakech-Menara Airport is located approximately 5 kilometers southwest of the city center. The airport serves major international carriers and low-cost airlines. Depending upon the origin of your trip, you may have to change planes in Casablanca before reaching Marrakech. Regularly scheduled buses connect the airport and city. These air-conditioned buses depart every 20 minutes. Private airport transfers and hotel shuttles can be prearranged.
