About

With a recorded history spanning more than 3,000 years, Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world. The city center contains most of the historical sites that you would want to visit such as the Acropolis, which includes the ancient Parthenon and the Theatre of Dionysus. Another important historic site is the Daphni Monastery, which is located about 7 miles northwest of the city center. It was originally built in the 6th century and restored in the 11th century. There are also a number of museums including the New Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum. Parnitha National Park and the National Garden of Athens are both popular outdoor spots. Aegina, one of several Saronic Gulf Islands suitable for daytrips, offers beautiful beaches as well as more ancient Greek archaeological sites.
