Liverpool may be most famous as the home of the Beatles, and fans won't want to miss the museum devoted to them, "The Beatles Story," but it has a rich cultural heritage and history beyond that as well. Located in northwest England, its Pier Head Waterfront area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it has the country's second largest national museum collection. Among its notable museums are the Tate Liverpool, the National Museums Liverpool and the World Museum Liverpool. In the city's Cultural Quarter, you can see a number of interesting examples of neo-classical architecture. Soccer fanatics may want to try to get tickets to see the hugely successful Liverpool or their fierce city rivals, Everton.

Getting to and from

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is located in the southern part of Liverpool. The Airlink 500 operates every half hour daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and takes around 38 minutes to reach the city center. There are several other local buses you can take including the 86A bus, which operates 24 hours per day. The much larger Manchester Airport is about an hour away, and there are frequent and direct rail links between Manchester Airport and Liverpool Lime Street Station.
