About

Situated on the Dnieper River, Kiev is the largest city and capital of Ukraine. Home to numerous governmental and international organizations, it is a leading commercial, cultural, educational and scientific hub for Eastern Europe. The city features urban art, vintage cafes and exciting nightlife as well as numerous museums and world-famous landmarks. Along with the Golden Gate, attractions include the gold-domed Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery, St. Sophia’s Cathedral and Rodina Mat, a colossal statue of a female warrior. Kiev has four distinct seasons with summer highs in the 80s and winter lows slightly below freezing.

Getting to and from Kiev

The largest airfield in the country, Boryspil International Airport is the main aviation gateway into the city. It is located approximately 30 kilometers east of Kiev on the M03 motorway. Several local and regional bus routes connect the airport with the Syretsko-Pecherska Metro line and the city’s central railway station. Several low-cost airlines use the smaller Igor Sikorsky Kyiv International Airport located 7 kilometers southwest of the city center. While bus service leaves from the terminal, the commuter rail station is approximately 500 meters away.
