About

Jeju City is found on Jeju Island off the southern coast of South Korea. Jeju Island is a popular destination for Asian tourists, sometimes referred to as "Korea's Hawaii" and known locally as the "Island of the Gods." It gets millions of visitors annually and is often visited by Korean honeymooners. Particularly prized for its beautiful beaches and other nature, it is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. There are actually three separate sites that make up what UNESCO calls the Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes. South Korea's tallest mountain, Hallasan Mountain, is one, and it has a number of hiking trails. A second is the lava tubes, part of the Geomun Oreum Lava Tube System, that run underneath the island. Finally, the Oreum of the Rising Sun, Seongsan Ilchulbong, is a 5000-year-old castle-like natural formation. Jeju Island's unique volcanic features mean the whole island is also considered a World Geopark. There are a number of museums and theme parks on the island as well.
