Quiet hotel with lovely ambience in the centre of Harrogate. We booked a cosy double which was perfect for what we needed for a 2 night stay.
The hotel is very well kept, clean. The staff very attentive and the food in the restaurant is excellent.

The opulent decor of the Fat Badger restaurant/bar, the central location and the overall warm feel.
* the 15 pounds per night separate charge for car parking is a bit cheeky when so many comparable properties include it complementary for room guests
* lighting in the bathroom is ill-designed and inadequate for shaving or makeup purposes.
* the old original sash window might have charm if its paint wasnt almost decayed and it fitted such that it had some sort of acoustic effect. It needs complete renovation.
* the hallway carpet (3rd floor) needs cleaning.
* the wonderful decor of the public areas (and really, the Fat Badger decor is 5star excellent) is not reflected in 3star economy decor of the bedroom. Nothing wrong with the bedroom, just its functionality bland style is such a contrast to the downstairs charm.

We checked in with my son on separate bookings and the young man in reception was kind enough to offer us rooms next to each other! The rooms were in a private suite and were lovely! Spotlessly clean.
Dinner at the Fat Badger was wonderful. As was the friendly and polite service we received from everyone.

Location and own car park (chargeable which is the norm now). On site Fat Badger restaurant where good selection of breakfast choices available
Nothing all was good, but staying in room 223 was very noisy because of large kitchen extraction fan outside of window

Would have preferred to be in the main property as not ideal when having to go for breakfast . Should be informed where you are going to stay on booking. No mention of other property not attached to main building

The location is excellent with many cafes, parks, pubs and restaurants nearby, as well as interesting places to visit. The Fat Badger bar is exceptional - great atmosphere as well as a great range of beers.
I had not realised that I was not booked into the main hotel, but an adjacent property a short walk away. Whilst this was not a great inconvenience to me personally, since I was travelling alone, My wife would not have been happy, had she been with me.
