Exceptional
Staying in an historic building with bags of character, big comfortable rooms, lovely staff and great breakfasts...so the floorboards creak, the place is 300 years old man!
A lot of thought has gone into making the Orchard Club an 'experience', I would recommend it as a place to stay.
Not being able to check in before 4pm

Good
The best thing about the place was the great, friendly and helpful staff who were lovely. I had a comfortable room and the continental elements of the breakfast were nice although the cooked breakfast wasn't too great. Please get them a decent toaster that works properly, they did the best with what they had but should be given decent equipment
Not very appealing to have to go round the back, which was far from attractive and didn't create a good first impression. To then find a poor reception area which was basically a cupboard. A pity for the staff who do their best with what they've got. Would be so much nicer and more welcoming to go through the original front door from the main street to find a welcoming reception area.

The bed was nice and soft, the breakfast was kingly, a fridge and a heater that actually works all night long, beautiful decor. has a nice vibe to it. Overall I would say itsa perfect location for 1 person, I do not know abot more because only I went, but I imagine that for a couple it would be even better

Disappointing
The location and the size of the room were excellent. The staff were friendly. The cooked breakfast on day one was excellent. As was the buffet.
There was no running cold water ! The hot water took 5 minutes of running the hot water tap to emerge !
The shower was cramped and the water issue was a problem with having to run the shower for 5 minutes to obtain hot water. Bit still no cold water.
The toilet roll was not topped up and we had to ask for another roll.
On arrival there did not seem to be anyone to acknowledge that we had arrived. We wandered around the building for some time before some one asked us if we needed assistance.
The cooked breakfast on day 2 was smaller than day one eg One less Tomato and sausage . Why ?
On the weekend the hotel seemed to be run by school age children and young teenagers. Only on the Monday did an older adult appear (= Jackie who was very good and efficient ). That is not a good thing for an hotel costing £78 /night , which is rated at AA 4 stars.
In fact bearing in mind the above the value for money was very poor. I could not recommend this hotel ,and I would not stay at it on a subsequent visit to the charming and historic Knaresborough.

The room was lovely and spacious and every convenience was thought of.
The poached egg wasn't runny on the Sunday morning. It was on the Saturday morning though. That's literally the only thing that wasn't 100% about our stay.

Wonderful
I was here on business so didn’t explore the area much, but what I did see was lovely, the Hotel is in a good location, parking was a bonus. The breakfast was a strong 9/10, Staff brilliant, room had everything I needed, I had a room that had a separate bathroom across the hall, not a major problem for me, but that particular room might put some people off.
