Loved this hotel. Staff went above and beyond, very comfortable rooms, lovely beds, dog friendly as well and all the staff were so sweet to our dog which was great as sometimes “dog friendly” means “dogs tolerated”

The hotel was welcoming and well appointed
It was very hot in our room. The window only opened slightly and it was difficult to cool the room even with the fan provided.

Very comfy bed and good breakfast.
£270 for a character-less room. Deluxe room was not deluxe. Big, yes but no personality. Very bland decor. Mould in the shower on the grouting. I stated it was our first anniversary and not even a cheap bottle of Prosecco in the room. Considering it's obvious we live in Harrogate and chose this hotel as a treat, you'd think they would have treated us to something special as locals. But no, nothing to make us recommend the hotel in future. Also the staff at checking were bored and disengaged. Our directions to Hugel were "first floor and turn left" but really its "first floor, turn left, walk all along the corridor and the room is on the right". We wondered if we were on the wrong floor.

The duty manager was very apologetic about absent house keeping and rectified the situation.
Very poor house keeping. Room was not cleaned for the whole trip. It was a shame as we really enjoyed the rest of it .

Nice building a little tired in ares
The mattress was shocking went up in the middle,really bad sleep first night
Requested something to but on top as couldn’t move is ! They put more bedding under which helped

Outstanding room. Excellent location. Nice bar.
Had carpark paid, but someone was in our space so to use another. Hassle but ok. Came back from trip next day in rain and carpark used ( after putting bollard up). Turned out staff member just parked in it. Hassle not needed when hard to park and wet.
Dinning area/food was ok but lacked a bit of energy

Location, comfortable areas to relax with a drink.
The coffee machine at breakfast. A cafetiere would be far more in keeping . Having to queue for a bitter machine coffee isn't a great start to the morning.

I always recommend this chain, I can put up with shortfalls because of the aforementioned. I expect the state of the economy restricts future investment.
Rather than brave the restaurant after last time we ate out. In the morning, before a long drive, we braved breakfast, frankly a travesty, a transport cafe would be better! No flavour, poor product! To their credit they didn’t charge. As with the last visit the kitchen, once a beacon, is now absolutely disgusting!
The common areas are now dreadfully tired, carpets etc.

Some of the facilities were not as good as before, amenities in the room were a bit lacking
