Wonderful
The staff were fantastic: really friendly and helpful and service was very fast. The breakfast was great, lots of good options and a nice dining area.
The wifi and mobile signal however were very poor; I had a work email I needed to send and in the end I had to take my laptop down to the reception area and even that took several goes. I also struggled to find a park as there was an event on that evening and its high attendance meant that even the overflow carpark was full.

Hotel is in a good location, and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, with attentive staff.
Facilities and the building a little worn.

Wonderful
Beautiful old hotel. We stayed in a superior double room. It was a good size and decorated really nice, in keeping with the style of the hotel. The breakfast was lovely too, loads of choice.
I was looking forward to trying the smoked salmon, but it ran out and wasn't replenished. The room was quite dark making it difficult to apply makeup.

Wonderful
The hotel is perfectly situated a short walk from the centre of Harrogate. The building is charming, keeping its character. The staff were without exception helpful and friendly. It felt like stepping into the Downton era
The internet was intermittent and the shower temperamental although the welcome sheet did explain that.

Good
The location is within a short walk to the centre of Harrogate. The hotel itself has lots of period features which are beautiful. There's a lift to all floor which in some old hotels is not always the case.
The shower and hot water takes a very long time to come through and us still tepid so be prepared for a cold wash. The hotel information gives guidance on getting hot water but even following that it's still not very hot at all. Breakfast is adequate if a little old fashioned. Tinned mandarin oranges grapefruit slices and prunes are the fruit offer although hot food is ok

Poor
Staff were friendly and location is fairly close to the town centre.
Room was in a very poor shape. Wallpaper peeling from walls. No hot water - lukewarm showers despite the recommendation that we run the all hot water taps at the same time. When we arrived room was like a sauna. The worst thing was the pillow badly stained with blood and I do not know what! We mentioned these issues at the end and they said they would have moved us albeit the hotel was fully booked with coach trips who no doubt paid a lot less for their rooms.

Very Poor
Good location, good parking, decent breakfasts
Desperately in need of renovation, room was single glazed so lots of road noise made sleeping difficult, as did creaking from floorboards when guests moved around. Lift was starting to break down on first day of stay, finally broke down the next day and still wasn’t fixed 3 days later when I left, had to walk up and down six flights of stairs to my room on the third floor which was extremely inconvenient, luckily I'm young and reasonably fit unlike many of the older guests who really struggled. I was directed to inquire to head office when asking for a refund and told they may take up to 30 days to respond which is ridiculous, so fully expect to get fobbed off and ignored when I do. Terrible experience, avoid. Edit: Since first posting this I have read through recent reviews and thought I should add this extra point in. During my stay the fire alarm went off at 2am on the morning I was due to check out, leading to me getting woken from a deep sleep in a state of panic and then getting no sleep for the rest of the night once we were eventually allowed back in again after it was determined to be a false alarm. I initially neglected to include this in my review as it seemed like something beyond the hotel's control and just bad luck, but from reading reviews I can see this also happened two weeks before my stay, indicating there is probably a fault with the alarm system that hasn't been fixed as well, based on the response from the hotel to the broken lift I observed during my stay. This has significantly increased my unhappiness with the hotel to the point I would now actively recommend people cancel upcoming bookings at this hotel, it is not even worthy of being a one star hotel at this point.

Wonderful
Excellent location, ten minutes walk to the centre of Harrogate. Great value for money. Lovely staff Beautiful old building which must be very difficult and expensive to maintain. Very clean.
Room was very hot ( but the window could be opened) Rooms not very well soundproofed, probably to be expected in such an old building. Didn't particularly bother us.
