Disappointing
Not much at all to be honest it was dirty and I paid for a premier room and got a small dirty room bathroom and bedroom was dirty bathroom bling had all stains on it and the room was on the top floor bath windows safty catch was missing so in my opinion it was dangerousness as a child or and adult could have got out and fell

Good
Good location, plenty of parking. Bus stop right outside. Lovely old building.
The building is tired. It must have been quite the place in the past, but does need some investment now, if it is to avoid further deteriation.

Very Poor
Not a lot this stay
Being misled by the staff regarding our room standard and bed size, and having the pleasure of paying extra for the privilege! Cooked breakfast bland and overcooked.
Rude and loud reception staff member during checkout,!
We've been staying at the Cairn for years however, we won't be returning that's for sure!

Fair
We arrived in Harrogate at about 13:30 and I went to reception and asked, "I assume its probabaly too early to check-in, but could you have a look see?"
The response was a curt, "Check-in is 3" Zero eye-contact zero hello or welcome, the staff member simply looked at her screen being busy...
When we checked in at about 4:30 we were allocated a wardrobe with a bed shoved in the corner.
I went doen to reception to ask how that was deemed to be a superior room to be immediately handed a different room key (a room was akin to superior).
Old Victorian hotels survive on character and the experience of the lovely building- That is why we booked. However, the attitude of staff and treating everyone like a 1 night stop so we dont care
Staff attitude
Honesty of room description.

Very Good
Have stayed a few times here. It's a great location into town, ample parking. Great bar with comfortable seating. Room was a twin which was a good size room with a lovely bathroom with overhead shower. Downside, due to the weather being extremely hot, the room was nearly unbearable to sleep in, fans need to be an option for the future if the weather continues like it's predicted. The booking in process was easy, though I thought the welcome could have been a bit more than just here's your key, the room that way, read that sheet for anything else. Perhaps saying what time breakfast is and where, where to find the wifi would be more useful and helpful.
Breakfast was buffet style, hot and cold, fantastic selection, staff very friendly and quick to clear up afterwards. There's substantial parking in the grounds and it's a 5 minute walk to the shops etc. Overall, I recommend to stay here.

Very Good
We got a friendly welcome when checking into the hotel reception. During our stay, we were impressed with the general friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
The room was generously sized, very clean and well maintained. Toiletries, tea/coffee/etc, towels and linen were replenished daily. It was clear to us that the hotel staff take a lot of care and pride in the work that they do.
The hotel was very easily accessible. Just a short walk from the town centre. A bus stop outside the hotel provided direct and frequent services to the town centre, Ripon and Leeds.
We agree with some of the earlier reviews that parts of the hotel need renovating and updating. I'm sure the hotel are already aware and looking into this. That said, the room was very clean, comfortable and well presented.
Having a couple more electrical sockets would have been helpful. We booked a twin room where the two of us had mobile phones and cameras that needed recharging and there was only one dual-socket that we could use. However, we managed OK so it was not a problem.

The breakfast was very nice however service members not real friendly or happy. The bed in the room was very comfortable. In addition, the location was nice and the hotel had a wonderful green space for our two small dogs. The building is absolutely beautiful.
There are a couple things that I would like to mention. First the shower would NOT get hot only warm. The bed was quite comfortable however the pillows need replacing. The staff definitely did not seem to be happy working there, maybe the culture?

Wonderful
The staff were fantastic: really friendly and helpful and service was very fast. The breakfast was great, lots of good options and a nice dining area.
The wifi and mobile signal however were very poor; I had a work email I needed to send and in the end I had to take my laptop down to the reception area and even that took several goes. I also struggled to find a park as there was an event on that evening and its high attendance meant that even the overflow carpark was full.

Wonderful
Beautiful old hotel. We stayed in a superior double room. It was a good size and decorated really nice, in keeping with the style of the hotel. The breakfast was lovely too, loads of choice.
I was looking forward to trying the smoked salmon, but it ran out and wasn't replenished.
The room was quite dark making it difficult to apply makeup.

Wonderful
The hotel is perfectly situated a short walk from the centre of Harrogate. The building is charming, keeping its character. The staff were without exception helpful and friendly. It felt like stepping into the Downton era
The internet was intermittent and the shower temperamental although the welcome sheet did explain that.

Good
The location is within a short walk to the centre of Harrogate. The hotel itself has lots of period features which are beautiful. There's a lift to all floor which in some old hotels is not always the case.
The shower and hot water takes a very long time to come through and us still tepid so be prepared for a cold wash. The hotel information gives guidance on getting hot water but even following that it's still not very hot at all. Breakfast is adequate if a little old fashioned. Tinned mandarin oranges grapefruit slices and prunes are the fruit offer although hot food is ok
