Wonderful
Great part of city, calm, safe and beautiful. Everything clean and cozy. Big communal area with a kitchen and tables. Most staff speaks English and if not still trying to be helpful and accommodating.
In the communal spaces it was quite cold. Some things were harder to find and orient in the building (laundry room). There is a huge step from the bathroom into the room.

Wonderful
Breakfast was hit or miss. The rice pancakes were great, but I was not a fan of the avocado toast. The locally baked breads were amazing, as were the pottage options.
I tried to get coffee at 729 one morning and was told I had to wait until 730, which I thought was a little silly. But I might be being unreasonable.
The room itself was comfortable but not really decorated or designed at all like the rest of the hotel. The lounge area was great. Staff were all super friendly and you can get more pillows if you ask. Location can make finding food difficult as most things were reserved or a bit far to walk to -- on the other hand, it was an extremely quiet area and really nice to walk around.
Ueno park nearby was an incredible benefit

Fabulous and quiet location.
Only thing we didn’t like was that the bed was pretty hard.

Wonderful
Great location in terms of quiet, walkability, transportation access and nearby businesses. We had the king room with a large TV projector which was fun.
When we arrived, there was coffee and a kettle, but they would not replenish and we were there 3 nights. The breakfast was okay but not many choices and no variety over the 3 days. Some of our hotels in Japan had a couple of English language stations on the TV but this one didn’t.

It’s sort of a mix between a hostel and a hotel room, and has lovely shared spaces and a cafe. We had a room with a private bathroom and it was a nice size and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cafe was delicious!

Exceptional
Good shared room, but I ended up changing to a private room to get more space (the staff was super helpful and nice about it!), and it ended up being a gigantic room, perfect for my needs (last days in Japan, had to re-pack and organize my stuff!). Food was pretty good, and the common spaces were pretty lively.
No complaints.

The bathroom is well-equipped with enough space to put our clothes and stuff. The water pressure is great which allows us to have a comfortable shower after a long day.
The public area is quite beautifully renovated and the kitchen is well-equipped too.
The staff with good English gave very clear information about the hotel.
They allow us to drop our luggage there earlier with the front desk keeping an eye for us.
The ventilation at the room is bad. Although there is an air purifier but the whole night with all four people in a room the room odor turned very bad.
The corridor at the level 1 (ground floor) where the dorms located has the ‘odor of human’. :(

Hotel Graphy Nezu was lovely and lowkey. It was just the right spot and just the right location for our final nights in Tokyo. The staff was wonderful, the room was comfortable, and we had a nice dinner at the cafe.

Wonderful
The staff were exceptional throughout. The shared amenities were also clean, thoughtful, and accommodating. The 'free beer hour' is such a great way to encourage conversation, and the rooftop patio was lovely with comfortable seating and fabulous views. I booked the Deluxe Theatre Room, which was massive, comfortable, and honestly hard to leave. Two comfortable mattresses, huge theater, functional and clean bathroom, sitting area...if you're crying out for some space on your Japan trip and want to have some movie time, check it out. Maybe a touch pricey comparable to some local hotels, but you get the great room with the social feeling of a hostel. I made several connections, and all the reviews were positive.
Nothing really. As I said, it can get expensive on weekends relatively speaking, but that depends on season and time of the week. The area is quiet, but easily walkable to some great bars, the Ueno zoo and park, and the local station. As a side note, I pulled an all-time idiot move and left my bag at a neighbouring bar overnight. My laptop, money, my PASSPORT. Ah, sake. The next day, in a panic, I start back for it...only to have the owner whiz by on bicycle, gasp, and pedal off to hand deliver me my bag. She is an angel. If you stay there, check out the Cafe & Bar Detour 7006. Small, unassuming, but the owner is absolutely lovely and friendly and will cook up a storm, keep the booze flowing, and set up karaoke if requested.
