Exceptional
This was our absolute favorite ryokan of our trip to Japan. The staff was welcoming, the facility was beautiful, and the location was perfect- less than a block from the Yanaka Ginza- exciting by day, quiet by night. Theres a washer and dryer- much needed after 10 days of travel- and they provide detergent. The proprietors were generous with coffee, tea, provisions and extra big fluffy towels, not the skimpy ones you get in most hotels. Make sure you follow their recommendations for dinner nearby. We had some delicious meals they suggested. We will definitely return.
Its a bit of a haul from the station (about 10 minutes with some gnarly steps) but well worth the walk

Traditional guesthouse. No Onsen. Quiet traditional neighborhood not far from Nippori JR station, 10 min walk. We walked to Ueno park and on. It was our first stop in Japan and the price fit our budget.

Wonderful
Great quiet location around a 10 minute walk to Nippori station through a nice local shopping street.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, they even let me leave my bag after I checked out so I could go out without lugging my luggage around.
Room was clean and comfortable (nice tatami floors) and came with its own shower and toilet. Fridge was bigger than usual so I could fit more in it.
Building also has an elevator and laundry (for a small fee).
A minor issue, the fridge was quite loud and whenever it turned on it made a really loud noise which kept waking me up in the middle of the night. I turned the futon around and slept at the other end and that reduced the noise from it.

The location was great close train connections The hosts were really helpful and friendly. The area was lovely - good restaurants close by. Supermarkets and shopping facilities were excellent
The bathroom felt cramped

Location: near very walkable neighborhoods (including Yanaka Ginza) and 10 minutes by foot from train station Room: bigger than typical for what we've seen so far in Japan. Did not offer Japanese breakfast nor Onsen (public bath) - two things I've come to appreciate and enjoy in Japan. Clean: yes - as clean as others we visited during our 3 week stay in Japan. Service: This Ryokan is run by the family (parents and adult children) who provide exceptional, helpful service (maps, what to see in the area, etc).

Pleasant
Conveniently located in the idyllic Yanaka Ginza area. Nippori station is about 10 minutes by foot. Owners are helpful and friendly. Room
In my opinion it is overpriced. I understand this is Tokyo, but I have stayed at other properties here which were as good and cheaper.
The rooms are basic and in our case there was a permanent unpleasant smell. The refrigerator is noisy and the WiFi is really slow - at least in room 307.

We really enjoyed our stay at this Ryokan. The staff (who we think were the owners) were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious enough and quiet and the futon were very comfortable. The location is also very close to both Sendagi subway (direct line to Harajuku) and Nippori station (easy to get to Narita airport and anywhere on the Yamanote line).
The only thing about this Ryokan Ididn't like was the shampoo and body wash. There was no conditioner available and the shampoo was low quality and not very good with someone with long hair (it didn't bother my partner). I would suggest just buying your own from the pharmacy or Lawson that are only a couple of minutes walk away.

Wonderful
Location (that I already knew), room size excellent, general atmosphere of the place, all very good at a good price. Highly recommended. I have stayed in more than 30 hotels and ryokans in Japan and this one rates very high in terms of the ratio of room size/location/price.
I liked everything

Helpful, friendly staff. Pleasant traditional room with a good bathroom. We wanted to be in that area near Nippori Station. Would stay there again.

The host was very kind and speak fluent English They explained the rule and facilities in detail and also introduced me the surrounding area.
The location was nice and very close to the train and metro. Good place to enjoy the local vibes. There are some Izakaya, which was crowded with locals, to go at night. The nearby Cibi cafe was good, too.
The futon was clean and comfortable (may be too hard for some people).
There nearby Yanaka Ginza was kind of tourist-oriented.

The location is fantastic. Walk out your door and youre surrounded by charming shops on a pedestrian street. Weve stayed in many different parts of Tokyo, and Yanaka continues to be a favorite. Its also super close to a metro stop (3 minute walk).
I liked the traditional beds, but my wife found them a little hard.
