I loved staying at Piece Hostel. The room had everything I needed, and the shower facilities were clean and very private. The location is great as well, the hostel is a very short walk to Kyoto Station and 7/11. Great for wrapping up a day exploring.
The only thing I wish they included, was a freezer that was easier to access. If I brought back a cup of ice for a morning coffee or a frozen snack, I would have to hand it over to staff to keep, unlike the refrigerator in the lobby.

This was my favourite hostel so far in Japan and I recommended it to my friends. Staff are friendly, and I received service that generally felt much kinder than other hostels or even hotels. Shared facilities are designed beautifully and feels like a modern, well-designed social hostel, though it not very busy while I was there - probably because it is the off season. The hotel aesthetic with wooden furniture, books, and video game nights are nice and makes me want to spend time there outside of sleeping. In other hostels, it often feels uncommon to see people over 35 staying in a hostel, but it almost gives a hotel vibe, so it felt natural that older adults were also staying. Facilities were clean and I liked having a keycard to make the room more secure. The location could not be better, it is a 5 minute walk to Kyoto station and really near the Shinkansen platforms for those going to or arriving from another major city.
The elevator broke while I was there but that’s not really the hostel’s fault. Perhaps the only con is that there is not a shared freezer that I could tell? But I think there was a sign saying you could talk to staff if you needed to freeze something.

Hostel was very nice and welcoming. Staff made it a point when checking in to show all available amenities, recommendations of nearby places, and to let them know of any issues.
Facilities were clean and common areas often lively with other tenants, so was a pleasant atmosphere to hang about if you needed to take it easy for a while.
Rooms were small but very functional, and the bed was particularly comfortable, perfect for those looking for a pragmatic place only to spend the night on without worries.
Location was perfect as it is less than a 10 minute walk to Kyoto Station, and from there you can connect to any place you wish to visit, so that is the biggest selling point.
Only note of complaint is the breakfasts offered. It is very basic offering bread and some fruit or granolas, for that price you may as well go to a Family Mart or 7-Eleven and get something more filling or varied.
On that note, there is a one on your way to the closest station, so my recommendation is doing that instead.

There was no option at the point of booking to choose between an upper bed or a lower bed. I have a back injury and found it difficult to climb to my upper bed. Unfortunately, the staff could not change my allocated bed.

location is quite ok. need to walk a bit into the alley. but near 7-11. good that it is near the train station and bus station. near shopping malls, though not enough time to shop anyways. staffs are very nice to me. One Japanese male staff I don't know his name is super friendly and active. Facilities are outstanding!! my first time in a hostel but sure this is the best one!! Loved that it has a nice kitchen to cook!! not only just microwave or only fridge. Luckily I've booked the single loft room. I've got enough space to open my luggage. funny how I had to crawl up with legs that just walked 20,000 steps here when I never exceed 100 steps back at home.
Only comment is the bunk bed could have a foam guard to prevent anyone's head hitting the edge of the bed when they stands up.

The location is number 1. It is so close to Kyoto station. 2, the staff were all amazing friendly and helpful.
There was a false fire alarm that went off at 7am on New Year’s Day. This was no fault of anyone’s. But it was difficult to handle.
