I really enjoyed the location! It was about a five minute walk away from one very beautiful temple, and then a 20 minute walk from the main area that had lots of cute shops and temples. In addition, I really loved the hot spring. There were two hot spring rooms that were divided by gender, and they rotated so that you get to experience both. In each room, there was one indoor hot spring, one outdoor hot spring, and one basin hot spring. The rooms themselves were also nice, I like sleeping on futons! I had a really great view of the autumn leaves from my room. The staff were also super lovely, and the pick up was very simple to organize. I can’t leave out how absolutely amazing dinner was, that was an absolute highlight for me!!!
Given the type of accommodation, it’s very traditional Japanese style. That being said, the walls are a bit thin so I could hear people in the hallway if they were loud enough. My two simple critiques are- I would love if there were garbage bins in the hot spring change room and just a bit more of a closer clean in the shared washrooms.

Amazing location and the staff were terrific! Traditional nabe (hot pot) for dinner was exceptional - great flavour and plenty of extras (especially the locally made miso pastes!)
Onsen was clean and provided indoor and outdoor pools with real/natural mineralised water. Beautiful setting and surroundings. Very close to shrines and temples with incredible gardens and scenery.
I can't recommend this place highly enough!
Rooms were a little run down (needs a mild makeover). But still clean and tidy.

My stay at Rate Kyo no Minshuku Ohara no Sato was both relaxing and memorable. The hospitality was exceptional—the staff were kind, attentive, and made me feel truly welcome. The peaceful countryside setting added to the calming atmosphere, making it the perfect escape from the busy city. A lovely place to unwind and enjoy traditional Japanese warmth.
What could have been better would have been if I was shown how to use the air conditioner in the room. I was very cold and then very hot.

Everything absolutely everything! Service, the room, the onsen, the staff, the locations. This has become my favorite place in Japan.
Given it’s a little difficult to get to but that might actually be a good thing. If you want to get away from it all.

The accommodation was comfortable, excellent outdoor onsen in a nice setting (not too hot), convenient parking. Breakfast and dinner were simple and very good.
Communication was not clear. We were told in repeated messages last starting time for dinner was 20-00 but learned is was 18-30 (max 19-00) upon arrival. Intermittent wifi.

The service team is very kind. When I got sick and felt so difficult, they sent me to the closest hospital and took me back after treatment. It’s a pity for my stay in Ohara. But local natural scenery and friendly people are really impressive.

Tattoo friendly onsen. Fresh food and extremely friendly staff who try to engage with us even with the language barrier. Great hosts! I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
