Located on the best shopping strip in Kyoto, with a fantastic selection of places to eat and close to both train and bus terminals. The room was very comfortable and the best part was the shower. I want one at home now. The staff were very friendly and the selection of toiletries available in the main reception was great. Highly recommend the buffet breakfast. Not only was the selection of food great but the quality of food was outstanding. Relaxing in the lounge area in the evening, after a full day exploring, listening to music and enjoying a drink is also another highlight of this hotel.
Nothing to improve on. This hotel and everything we needed and more.

Wonderful
The mini night bar, accessible music and the asthetic overall is great and worth the stay. The public bath is the highlight after a day out.
If planning to do laundry there isnt much machines and need to wait. They do show which machines are avaliable at least via tv and it take 7x 100 yens so be prepared. General wash also barely dries the clothes so be sure to plan what load you put in and when.

The location was perfect and the room was very clean. The staff was great and helpful especially with things like bag transfers.
The room was a bit small.

The location was very convenient, being downtown. Easy access to all transportation, shopping, and at the center of all the attractions. The room was clean and room service was excellent.
The bed was quite large for the room size, leaving little room to sit anywhere other than the bed, but that was a small inconvenience.

Location was great, the showers are excellent (full body shower with a rain/overhead option too) and the hotel breakfast buffet is incredible and delicious, with tons of different options, expertly prepared.
The beds and pillows are very firm and uncomfortable for someone accustomed to softer western bedding.
The room (double bed) was pretty small, I could imagine if you brought a bigger suitcase you’d struggle with space. We just barely fit with our two small carryon suitcases. We had to stow them under the bed! But don’t let this dissuade you from staying, if you have bigger bags, get a bigger room than a double.

We loved everything about this hotel. We enjoyed drinks in their lounge area which is self-pour at the end of our nights for a night-cap. I just wish they would have had food!
Even though the location was central, it was still a bit of a walk from the closest train station. The good thing is we only had carry-ons and backpacks, but we would have preferred something a bit closer.

The hotel looked very different in person compared to the images online. It was old and very tiny rooms compared to what was pictured. I did not end up staying and had to book a new hotel.

Hotel Grand Bach Kyoto: Cool Without Trying, Like That One Friend Who Just Gets It
Hotel Grand Bach isn’t just a place to crash—it’s a vibe. You walk in through this charming little entryway, and boom—you’re greeted by not one, but multiple music stations in the lobby like it’s trying to win a silent battle of the playlists. Honestly? It’s working. Each one gave off its own energy, and together they made the space feel more boutique record store, less boring hotel lobby.
The lounge was cute in a “please sit down and collect your life” kind of way—not clinical or awkward. Huge props for letting us lock up our luggage before check-in, too. That small gesture bought us a few hours of freedom and prevented at least one potential suitcase-related meltdown.
The location? Chef’s kiss. Food, shopping, side quests into alleyways filled with matcha everything—it’s all steps away. And let’s not gloss over the Luup bikes. Renting one felt like unlocking a cheat code for exploring Kyoto. We were zipping around like locals with better leg muscles.
The amenities? A quiet flex. Having laundry access on-site is wildly underrated—being able to freshen up our clothes mid-trip made us feel like responsible adults. And the his-and-hers public bath? Clean, relaxing, and very much appreciated after a day of walking 20,000 steps and still pretending it was “fun.”
The staff? Fantastic. Accommodating without being overbearing. Helpful without the fake smiles. Just genuinely good people doing a great job.
Bottom line: If you want a hotel that feels effortlessly cool, freakishly convenient, and packed with little perks that make travel smoother, Grand Bach is your place. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat—laundry and lobby playlists included.
Actually. Of the three hotels we booked, this was the best.

Wonderful
Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and contained sufficient towels and water bottles.
I forgot my passport in my room when I checked out. Several hours later, I received a phone call alerting me that the cleaning person found my passport and had turned it in to the receptionist at the front. This kind jester showed how honest the employees are and I was very grateful.
Hotel was difficult to find. We found a sign advertising the hotel but the hotel was no where in sight and the sign did not provide directions or instructions on how to get to the hotel. We had to ask an employee of a nearby store where we saw the sign for directions.
It would help to have verbiage on the hotel sign alerting people that the hotel's location is right around the corner some ## meters from the main street.

Room 917 was perfect for two adults. The most spacious room we stayed in on our trip. Great location. Staff was super helpful.
Nothing really. The elevator always stops on the lobby floor which extends your elevator trip by 2-3 seconds haha

Very Good
Very convenient to the center of Kyoto, friendly staff and clean.
The room size was not suitable for a king size bed. No room to place suitcases, no closet, a small bench for one. Not comfortable for two people. Decent hotel just incredible small room.
