Berlin is one of Europe's most exciting, vibrant cities. Much of it was destroyed during World War II, but it has since been rebuilt. The East Side Gallery is a long stretch of the Berlin Wall that has been painted by artists. Other famous sights include the Brandenburg Gate; the Reichstag Building, where you can visit the dome for free for an excellent view although you must book online in advance; and Checkpoint Charlie, where the city was once divided. Berlin is known for its nightlife, particularly the club Berghain, famous for its strict and confounding door policy. The city also has many green spaces and an enormous number of lakes where you can go swimming on warm summer days.

Getting to and from Berlin

Berlin is served by two airports: Tegel and Schonefeld.

Several buses run from Tegel to a number of locations throughout Berlin including S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations.

Regional trains, some of which travel to the city center, and the S-Bahn travel from Schonefeld to various locations in Berlin. The train station is a short walk from the terminal, and you can buy a ticket in the terminal or in the station. Tickets must be validated after purchase.
