The capital of Catalonia and the second-largest city in Spain, Barcelona is located along the Mediterranean Coast. This means you can enjoy both a beach getaway and a city vacation all in one. The architecture of Barcelona is stunning, but it is particularly known for the imaginative work of Antonin Gaudi and his still-under-construction Sagrada Familia church. The Old City, or Ciutat Vella, contains the famous street Las Ramblas and the Gothic quarter among other attractions. You can also visit Camp Nou, home to one of the world's most famous and successful soccer teams, FC Barcelona.

Getting to and from Barcelona

There are a number of different ways to travel to the city center from El Prat Airport:

• The fastest way along with a taxi, is the Aerobus (airport shuttle) which is equally fast. It runs every 5 minutes at peak times in each direction and makes a limited number of stops along the way towards Plaza Catalunya as its final stop.

• You can take the L9 Sud metro line and transfer to L1, L3 or L5 to get to the city center.

• The train runs every half hour from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. between the airport and Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gracia or Clot.
