About

Renowned as one of the world’s most livable cities, Auckland boasts beautiful surf beaches, trendy eateries and numerous cultural attractions. Points of interest include the Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki and the War Memorial Museum. Residents and visitors also enjoy nearby wineries, thermal springs, tracts of dense rainforest and wildlife preserves. Flanked by two harbors and the Tasman Sea, the narrow isthmus on which Auckland is located has fertile farmland and volcanic cones. The largest metropolitan area in New Zealand, Auckland is situated in the northern half of the country’s North Island. It has more than 2,000 hours of annual sunshine. While summer highs average in the upper 70s, winter lows typically stay above freezing.

Getting to and from Auckland

Auckland International Airport is the largest commercial airfield in New Zealand. It is located approximately 15 miles south of the city center. The airport has domestic and international terminals. Ground transportation between the airport and Auckland includes taxis, shuttle vans and express bus service. Public buses stop in front of the terminals and connect with the main railway station for connections to other parts of the country. Several rental car agencies operate at or near the airport.
