About

The capital of Kenya, Nairobi is one of the largest cities in Africa. It was founded in 1899 and is located in the south-central part of the country. While there is plenty to do in the city itself, Nairobi is also considered Africa's safari capital. Nairobi National Park is found just outside the city and has a variety of animals including cheetahs, leopards, baboons, lions, rhinos, zebras and more. There are also refuges specific to certain animals, including the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Center and Mamba Village, where there are crocodiles and ostriches. Fans of the book or film "Out of Africa" will want to visit the home of Karen Blixon, which is now a museum about her. Back in the city, there is a national theater and several art museums. You can buy locally made items at the Maasai Market. Nairobi is known for its excellent night life, which includes a number of popular clubs that play electronic dance music.
