Located in central China, Chengdu is the capital of the province of Sichuan. It is one of western China's three most populated cities. Most giant pandas in the world are found in Sichuan province, and you can visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in the Chengdu suburbs. Chengdu is also home to many important ancient sites, including the Wuhou Shrine, built in the 3rd or 4th century. The Jinsha Relics Museum displays archeological relics from the Jinsha site, a civilization that thrived from 1200–650 BC. There are also several old monasteries and temples in the city. The Wide and Narrow Lanes area is a historic district that includes a number of restaurants, bars and shops as well as residential areas. Recognized by UNESCO as a city of gastronomy, Chengdu is known for its spicy food, including the hotpot.Getting to and from
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is about 16 km from downtown Chengdu. Between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., you can take Metro Line 10 to Taipingyuan and transfer to Line 3 to get to the downtown area. Several buses run daily to various locations in the area, and there are two night buses. Taxis and car rentals are also available.
