Located in the rolling hills of western Ukraine, Lviv is the historic capital of the Galicia region. The seventh-largest city in the country, it features cobblestone streets and numerous examples of heritage architecture. The Old Walled City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hosting 10 theaters, 60 museums and over 100 cultural festivals, Lviv is a center for art, literature, music and the performing arts. In addition to its green-domed churches, points of interest in the city include High Castle Hill, the Shevchenko Monument and the Lviv Art Gallery. The Ratusha, or town hall, has a tower that affords panoramic views of the city. Lviv has cold winters and mild summers. While winter lows dip below freezing, the summer highs reach into the mid-60s.

Getting to and from Lviv

Named in honor of the founder of the city, Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport is located approximately 4 miles southwest of the city center. Taxi, surface bus and trolley services connect the airport to Lviv. The public bus and trolley depart the terminal every 10 to 15 minutes during the day. Rental cars are also available. Local, regional and international trains depart from the celebrated Lviv Railway Station for those wishing to explore the surrounding area.
