The capital of Belgium, Brussels is located in the center of the country and has more than 1.2 million inhabitants. The Grand Place is the historic central square of the city and is one of its main attractions. It is one of several UNESCO World Heritage sites throughout the city along with four townhouses designed by Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta, the Sonian Forest and other attractions. Brussels is also famous for its comic strips, with the Smurfs and Tin-Tin among its most popular characters worldwide. These and other iconic figures can be seen on murals throughout the city on the Brussels Comic Book Route. The city is known for its excellent food and drink, which includes the Belgian waffle along with chocolate, French fries and beer.

Getting to and from

There are several trains per hour from the Brussels Airport to the city center, which takes about 17 minutes. You can take a lift or escalator to the train station, which is on level -1 beneath the arrivals and departures hall. You can also catch the STIB Airport Line to the city center from level 0, also found just beneath the arrivals hall.
