About

The Scottish Highlands city of Inverness is over 1500 years old. One of the most famous and popular attractions is Loch Ness, home of the legendary Loch Ness monster and only about 15 minutes away from the city by car. However, there are many other reasons for visitors to go to Inverness. Inverness was a former Pict stronghold, and today, Pictish stones can be viewed at the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery along with many other historic objects. Inverness is an excellent town from which to explore such nearby attractions as the Black Isle, which is actually a peninsula, and Cairngorm National Park. In the summer, there are regular tours of the city's oldest church, the Old High Church. The city center is walkable and offers many opportunities for shopping, dining and nightlife. Inverness sits on the River Ness and is dry compared to much of Scotland, but it can be cold in the winter.

Getting to and from

Inverness Airport is about 8 miles northeast of the city. Stagecoach bus 11 or 11A, also known as the Jetbus, runs between the city and the airport. It takes about 25 minutes. Taxis and rental cars are also available.
