I had a great stay here. The owners and staff are friendly and gave great recommendations for food, activities, getting around, etc., the location is easy to get to and from and very safe, and the room was cozy. Great breakfast too!

We never had the chance to try the breakfast. The room itself seemed fine, but unfortunately, we didn’t get the opportunity to actually stay overnight. The way we were treated made us feel very uncomfortable, as if we weren’t adults or responsible guests, and this really affected our experience.
We booked for one night but didn’t end up sleeping there at all because of how uncomfortable the experience was. The hosts were kind, but they seemed not to trust us - they kept calling about rules we had already read, especially about visitors. When I came back briefly around 2am to fetch my laptop, I used the garden gate and left my car outside with hazards on. Soon after, the host called accusing me of bringing people over who were drinking and making noise, which was untrue - it turned out the security had given them the wrong information. Even though I was polite, the situation made us feel unwelcome, and they even mentioned they hardly host people our age.

Lucky Bean Guesthouse is a wonderful property in a safe area in the suburbs of Johannesburg. The owners, Natasha and Conway, are incredible. They are very welcoming and chill and are eager to facilitate any day trips you may want. Thanks to their recommendation, I signed up for a Sowetu tour with Cecilia Mlangeni, who was born in the township and still lives there. It was an incredible experience! Cecilia is fantastic. Highly recommended!
You can easily get around the city with Uber and it is no problem getting to and from Lucky Bean Guesthouse by Uber regardless of the time.

Natasha and Conway were excellent hosts and very informative regarding restaurants and day trips. The guesthouse is located on a tree lined street in a nice safe neighborhood. The gardens and pool are beautiful

Exceptional staff. Present and involved owner. I appreciated Conway’s involvement with the staff and the guests. He was most helpful in planning a day in Joburg. A pleasant surprise. No corporate greed here.
I tend to run cold and the room was cold through the night. A minor inconvenience.

The 2 ladies in charge of breakfast were wonderful and always willing to prepare what we wanted. The soft omelette was sublime!
Natasha and Conway helped us organize individual tours of Soweto and the arts districts which made our stay in Johannesburg so worth it. They also advise us about local restaurants.

Elijah was very friendly and helpful as we arrived during a horrendous rain storm! The room was very clean and spacious. Good parking. Breakfast was tasty. Had dinner both evenings at the Garden Shed, which was next door and I would highly recommend that too. Staff we met were very cheerful and I would recommend staying here as a great base for Blyde Canyon and surrounding areas.

Everything I could have wanted and more. Conway and Tatiana were exceptional hosts who helped make everything I wanted happen, from arranging transport from the airport to recommending places to eat and visit, to setting up dinner reservations, there was nothing they were not able to do for us. I cannot say we enough good things about them and the rest of the staff. Excellent stay.
