Wonderful
I have stayed in this hotel several times, going back to 2019.
I think it's one the most special & unique hotel property in Cape Town.
I like that you feel like you are still in nature, & close to the ocean, and not in a city.
Amazing gardens & easy beach access.
Rooms are very reasonably priced, and on-site staff are all very nice, and helpful when possible.
My honest feedback for management:
The hotels identity feels a bit like a frankenstein design project. You have this main beautiful old manor, in old colonial style, with lush gardens, really feels like an oasis. But on the other hand you have these other rooms which feel like vacation rental airbnb's, and give a bit of a cheap feeling. There is no brand unity, it feels like you're staying in a mis -mash.
I truly think the hotel has such great potential to be on the next level, but it has to decide what type of experience it's going for. It needs a revamp to bring everything into one collective identity.
Other points: impossible to communicate with someone prior to arrival. Booking.com response rate very poor.
Padel court: There is no point of advertising the padel court, if non-guests people fully book out the entire court 1 week in advance on Playtomic. Have at least 1/2 hours a day reserved only for guests, otherwise again, you are just running a sports club on hotel grounds, adding to the mis-mash identity feeling.
Bonus: consider adding a small gym.

I absolutely loved my stay at Camps Bay Retreat. Every detail — from the lush surroundings to the impeccable amenities — felt next-level. My villa with the wood-fired hot tub was pure perfection, and the views made it hard to leave. The spa’s Grape Therapy Massage package was easily one of the best treatments I’ve had anywhere — deeply relaxing and beautifully done.
The food was consistently five-star — fresh, flavorful, and worthy of a fine-dining experience. The entire property feels like a secret sanctuary tucked away from the world, yet close enough to explore Cape Town. Truly unforgettable — I can’t wait to come back.
There was nothing I didn't like. It is one of the best stays I've had in a very long time.

Stayed at the main building. It’s a historical masterpiece from a bygone era. The room was gorgeous with three balconies and a sea view. Many thanks to Damien, Janine, Benson and last but not least Shafeka from housekeeping. Thank you to all the staff members of the hotel and restaurant for the great service and for providing us with the necessary assistance when we needed it. Hope to see you all very soon.
Everything was perfect

The location of the hotel, the view from the room, the comfort of the room and the building's old world elegance combined with an attentive and helpful staff helped make our stay exceptional.
There was nothing we didn't like.

Our stay at this hotel was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we had entered a nature oasis. The property is stunning—lush, peaceful, and meticulously maintained.
Our room was hands down the best we've ever stayed in. We were blown away by the space, comfort, and luxury—it had everything we could have asked for and more. A private pool, a hot tub, front and back porches, and even a cozy fireplace made it feel like our own personal retreat.
The service was outstanding, and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was a highlight, with a delicious spread that included fresh-squeezed orange juice and stunning views of the ocean—what a way to start the day!
The hotel itself is beautiful, with incredible attention to detail in every corner. Whether it was the design, the decor, or the small touches that made everything feel extra special, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax and recharge.
We can’t recommend this hotel enough. It’s a true hidden gem, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Everything. Perfect location. Beautiful views from the room and breakfast/dinner location. Everything you’d want on property. Fun hanging bridge. Gardens to walk through. Very safe with security. Amazing breakfast. Incredible staff.
Smallest details would be the shower tended to spill water onto the floor so you’d need ample towels to soak it up.

Good
Great location, great views, nice outdoor setting. That’s was the property had going for it. Rooms are quite nice too and shower had good pressure.
Inattentive service at main facility, lack of a welcoming environment, staff appear displeased, lack of ambience. Put this all down to a lack of management. Food choices at breakfast limited. No one approaches you or welcomes you when you appear for breakfast, instead staff are congregating and gossiping. Main facility appears a bit dated too and smells of incense. Also wish at check in, that staff would’ve been a bit more engaging and explained the services and facilities available and that there was a gym available at The Bay Hotel. This was not explained and we did not get to use these facilities.

A gem in the City. Fabulous setting, finest detailed room. While walking through the garden and forest you discover something around every corner eg the SPA pods, nature pool, indigenous plants and trees, the hanging bridge over the ravine, and a padel court. Absolutely love everything about The Campsbay Retreat

Very Poor
location
the staff are not interested , i asked to be notified when my room was ready , did not happen , i requested luggage collection twice was told someone was on their way , 20 min later carried my own luggage , my parcel left at reception could not be found , even after confirming its there ahead of pick up . i now have to send someone a second time.
i booked based on the hot tub in pics, i queried on checking in that it doesnt look private and that people above can look directly into our tub, i was told thats not the case , that night the above guests came to check on us with their cell phone lights , not as described .
