The initial staff that allowed us to check in was super friendly
The room was not up to par. There was yellowing on the ceiling, the bathroom door didn't open and close properly and the inner bathroom door frame was detached from the wall. Very sub par for the price that was paid.

I would have rated this hotel much higher - the bedroom was very nice - 2 queen beds, good lighting. Very clean. The bathroom setup was a bit odd, as it had 2 double doors opening into the bathroom on an angle. But the bathroom and room were very clean and comfortable. It was a quiet place. Entry into the lobby is a bit tight for vehicles, with a limited turnaround - I parked in the lot nearby and walked around to the lobby.
Very, very disappointing to come down in the morning for coffee and any decent breakfast. I have been to MANY hotels with breakfast bars; hands down - this was the messiest one I have ever seen. Obviously, the patrons were to blame - throwing food all over the counters. There was NO coffee at all in 4 containers (and no markings on them to indicate what they were). The worst part was that there were 3 people at the desk nearby, chatting away, and oblivious to the breakfast mess. (Maybe not their job? But it didn't take much effort to see that people were walking away from there, no coffee in hand) And since they never looked at any person walking by, I didn't even feel comfortable breaking into their "meeting".
I also suspect that there were several homeless people sitting around - one lady looked to be sleeping in a hallway chair. I would not feel safe or comfortable (as a single female traveller) coming to this place again.

The only thing I like here was we that we were not in the streets.
To La Quinta Management and Guest Relations,
I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my recent stay at the La Quinta in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, from July 17th to July 23rd.
I checked in with my daughter, and my brother checked in with his children at the same location. Upon entering my room, I immediately found it had not been properly cleaned:
- On the dresser where the television sits, there was plastic from a cereal box.
- On the floor between the two beds, I found one side of an earring and bottle caps.
- In the bathroom, there were pieces of rolled-up toilet paper on the floor. It was obvious the rug had not been vacuumed and the bathroom floor had not been mopped.
I was disgusted, but I cleaned up the mess myself.
On the second day, we planned to go to the beach and I went to use the ice bucket. It was full of previous guests' garbage. This confirmed my room was not cleaned before check-in.
By the third day, the condition of the pool became a health concern. The water was dirty with things floating in it and used towels left all around. The staff simply added more chlorine, which created an awful chemical smell. My daughter developed a rash on her skin after using the pool.
On July 20th, there was a blackout at the hotel. There were only two staff members on hand. One staff member was focused on rerouting new arrivals to other hotels and was ignoring current guests. When I asked for a flashlight, I was told there were none. When I asked for a lantern, I was told they needed them for the front desk. The hotel provided water but no food, and all the food in my room's refrigerator spoiled. My daughter, my brother, his children, and I had to wait in the pitch-black lobby because our rooms were completely dark.
While in the lobby, another guest was screaming about bedbugs in her room. She stated the hotel had already switched her room once before due to bedbugs.
Do not stay here!! Enter my room and smells like feces. They also advertise comfortable beds...... ha! It's going to take a month of chiropractic services to get my back right. The floor was more comfortable. There were Roaches in the clothes drawers. The place smelled bad. we were leaving at 10am to begin with. Contacted Windham hotels and awaiting a response.
The only positive thing about this experience was the availability. I was forced to find something spur of the moment due to flight issues. Upon arrival the reason is pretty inevitable why there was plenty of availability.
I would not stay here again if they paid me. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful so that's about the only kudos for the establishment. La Quinta needs to tear this building down to the studs and do a complete renovation. The door looked like it had been broken into when I keyed myself in so instantly I felt a bit sketched. As I entered in hopes for a relaxing 6-8 hours of sleep an overwhelming odor came over me. The shower was broken, bed was broken, sheets were nasty, insects crawling the walls. Thankfully the sink and toilet worked but the water had a nasty tint and order. I would absolutely not recommend staying here even for the $200 price point.
First, they told us they have no room for us because we have a pet. I told them I booked here because they accept pets. Then another clerk came and said yes there is one available on the first floor. The first floor is where all pets stay and if caught on another floor there is $250 dollars fine. The breakfast, dining area was tiny and overcrowded. The choices were very small. Muffins, coffee, cereal, bagels and waffle. The toaster was broken. An employee said on day on it would be replace and after 6 days nothing. So, we started to go elsewhere for breakfast.
