The cockroaches was my favourite part
COCKROACHES INFESTATION!!!
I found a cockroach in my room at the Shoreham Hotel, with photo and video evidence. To make things even better, it actually crawled inside my luggage.
A cleaner admitted it happens sometimes.
The hotel offered to move me to another room or let me check out and refund the unused nights. Moving rooms wasn’t really going to solve it. Once you’ve watched a cockroach crawl around your room and into your belongings, you don’t exactly settle comfortably into the room next door wondering when his cousins are going to show up.
So I checked out.
This cost me virtually an entire day of my trip. Checkout was at 10AM couldn’t check into my replacement hotel until 4pm, and I was supposed to be working that day.
What really amazed me was the hotel repeatedly describing the refund for the nights I didn’t stay as my “compensation.” Refunding accommodation that you are no longer providing is not compensation. It is quite literally the bare minimum BY LAW in this situation and they were clearly well aware of that.
Even then, around $100 was withheld as supposedly being “taxes,” with no proper breakdown explaining what exactly I was being charged for. My deposit also wasn’t returned.
The manager acknowledged that actual compensation would be fair, but told me it had to be handled through Booking.com. Since then, Booking.com has repeatedly tried contacting the hotel and, conveniently, the hotel simply doesn’t respond.
So: cockroach in the room, cockroach in my luggage, a day of my trip and work lost, unexplained money withheld, deposit missing, and then silence afterwards.
Absolutely revolting experience, made significantly worse by how it was handled. I would never stay here again.

The location
The location was the only good thing about this hotel. The building is old, shabby, and badly in need of renovation, yet the rates are comparable to those of much better hotels.
The free Wi-Fi barely worked, leaving you feeling pressured to pay for an upgrade. Unfortunately, the paid Wi-Fi did not work either. I asked the staff for help several times, and although they promised to resolve the issue, nothing was done.
The breakfast, which costs extra, was particularly disappointing: a banana, a cup of cold tea, and a small packet of crackers. This is not what I would expect from a paid hotel breakfast.
Overall, this hotel offers poor value for money. Between the unreliable internet, the lack of follow-through from staff, and the worn-out facilities, it was a frustrating stay. I would not stay here again.

BEWARE OF THIS FALSE ADVERTISEMENT AS A 4 STAR. IT IS A ZERO STAR.
This was the dirtiest hotel I have ever seen in my life. Stained carpets, stained dirty couch (that someone is supposed to sleep on) Stain bed headboard. I would not let me dog stay here. When I arrived in the room, I ran straight back down to reception and told them I was cancelling my reservation. I am now fighting to get my money back - it has been a big nightmare.

Fairly run down.
Layout of room was very screwy.
The couch/bed for the 3rd person used terrible,
Asked for enough towels for 3 people, took multiple tries to get them, see ice was not great

The hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of New York, with most major attractions within walking distance. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shops nearby.
The standard rooms are very basic, outdated, and noticeably worn. The carpet had visible stains, and there was no refrigerator in the room.
My room also had a large standalone air-conditioning unit in addition to the central air conditioning. Guests should be aware that some rooms overlook the hotel's main ventilation and air-conditioning system, including the restaurant exhaust. These rooms can be very noisy around the clock, and cooking odors may sometimes be noticeable

Location
They charged us on 500 dollars for smoking in the bedroom but we DONT SMOKE AT ALL. I’ve tried resolving this situation while in the hotel but they’ve charged us anyway. The manager didn’t help at all. We obviously didn’t smoke and they charged us anyway. BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT IT

It's very central and staff very friendly and helpful.bed was very comfortable.
Unfortunately we were on the second floor so very noisy from the road. You could hear everything particularly the trucks collecting the waste in the early hours of the morning.
Hotel is a little tired and could do with a face lift based on our room.

Disappointing
Location was great. Staff were very helpful.
Well if you want to go back to the 1980 to stay in a hotel, this is the one. Very out dated.
Also the dirt of this hotel was appalling. One of the lights wouldn’t turn off in the bedroom. Carpet was filthy wall was moldy. I could go on and on.

Didn't eat at hotel. All the staff members I interacted with were professional and friendly.
The noisy fan in the bathroom and the limited choices on the TV, especially with the US Open in progress when I visited.
