Disappointing
It's a hotel. You can sleep in it.
This is a 1 star hotel masquerading as a 4 star for the price of a 5 star ($500+/night). You get the absolute bare basics - the next step down would be to lack a private bathroom.
- Tiny cramped room
- Poor quality bedding: feather light pillows that do not hold your head or neck at all
- Architecture is such that you can't sit back and read in bed (yes, seriously)
- Bathroom doesn't lock, door has a gap you can see through, no fan, no bathtub
- Very poor wi-fi (had to use my hot spot for work calls)
- Confusing, poorly wired lighting
I learned that this hotel is owned by the Kohan Real Estate Group with a great track record of trouble with the authorities and allowing properties to fall into disrepair, and operated by Highgate with a reputation for doing the maximum for their shareholders and the absolute legal bare minimum for guests. I'm not surprised.

Staff was welcoming and warm, the room was clean, location is unbeatable, and overall the hotel is much better value for money than anything else i found in NYC.
The exhaust from the burger joint next door was noisy and the room did smell of burgers, although i do understand that this is not the hotel's fault.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The aircon functioned well, and the room was spacious enough.
The soundproofing on the room doors is insufficient - I could hear people in the passage very clearly. The lack of a mini-fridge, while not advertised, is a bizarre choice for a hotel of this price level. The design of the bathroom sink prevents you from keeping any items there, and the placement of the hairdryer on a ledge is again not really in line with the hotel's price range. The furnishings and finishings are out of date and need to be updated. The wifi was of questionable quality.

Location
This place is not worth a dollar. Furniture, paint job, carpet everything dirty, dated and bad condition. To charge upper level price and deliver a run down experience is unbelievable.

The location
The location was the only good thing about this hotel. The building is old, shabby, and badly in need of renovation, yet the rates are comparable to those of much better hotels.
The free Wi-Fi barely worked, leaving you feeling pressured to pay for an upgrade. Unfortunately, the paid Wi-Fi did not work either. I asked the staff for help several times, and although they promised to resolve the issue, nothing was done.
The breakfast, which costs extra, was particularly disappointing: a banana, a cup of cold tea, and a small packet of crackers. This is not what I would expect from a paid hotel breakfast.
Overall, this hotel offers poor value for money. Between the unreliable internet, the lack of follow-through from staff, and the worn-out facilities, it was a frustrating stay. I would not stay here again.
