I am writing regarding my stay at The Muse New York, Room 0704 from January 9-16, 2026 (Booking.com confirmation #53668843). Despite full compliance with all terms and conditions, my experience was unacceptable on multiple fronts.
Key Issues:
Cockroach and insects found in room (videos attached) - clear violation of hygiene standards.
Deceptive billing practice: Hotel staff first issued a receipt WITHOUT the $250 "miscellaneous tax." Exactly 45 minutes later, as we were leaving, they ran after us with a completely new receipt adding this $250 unexplained charge. Staff refused to explain what this "miscellaneous tax" covered despite repeated requests.
This $250 charge is fraudulent. $250 hidden as "miscellaneous” with NO EXPLANATION
I have escalated this to NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) - attached is my filed complaint form (Consumers@dcwp.nyc.gov) and evidence package. DCWP requires your response.
IMMEDIATE DEMANDS (ASAP):
Full refund of the $250 charge
Additional compensation for the insect-infested, room
Written explanation of the billing switch and tax breakdown
Confirmation this has been resolved

Rooms were large for New Yorkers and very generous bathrooms. It was very quiet. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
The lighting in the bathroom was much too dim.

The 4 of us stayed in a room with 2 queens. Despite being steps away from Times Square the room was quiet. The fitness center was great, staff was amazing, and the room was a fantastic value. We were within walking distance of so many wonderful sites including being right across the street from St. Mary the Virgin's Catholic Church, Val Pizza (some of THE best pizza I've ever had), a fantastic convenience store with amazing sandwiches and, of course, Times Square. We also got a transfer back to the Newark Airport, from the hotel's concierge, that was significantly less expensive than an Uber/Cab, or other private transfer. Loved it all!
There wasn't anything we didn't like about our stay.

Great location near Times Square. A bit hard to find, but not a big deal. Very clean room and well- appointed lobby.
Complimentary breakfast was a bit weird. It was three pre-made selections from the small food vendor in the hotel. Helpful, but a bit awkward.

Great location. Minutes from Times Square. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Was promised a room with a view but instead got a room looking straight into the apartments next door. This meant we had to keep the blinds closed most of the time and the lounge area was dark with no natural light or window. Nor a ceiling light. Very strange. Overall stay was good though.

The rooms are spacious and spotless, and nicely designed. I'd definitely stay here again!
The lighting ambience is a tad on the dim side (especially in the bathroom when trying to put on makeup -- but this is not a deal-breaker). The bathroom is large and lovely, with double sinks and an abundance of towels.
