Lobby was beautiful and location was excellent. Check in/check out was easy and efficient.
Overall the room was worn down and sad. My room was extremely dusty and I was sneezing all morning after sleeping in the room overnight. The shades were broken and held in place with zip-ties. There were holes in the wall where there had been previous damage or a floating shelf had been pulled lose. The room smelled stale and the towels smelled like paint. There was a layer of dust on everything. The hallway was noisy and you could hear people coming and going and the elevator making noise all night (and I was not right next to the elevator). For the price, this place was not worth it.

Best location in New York, especially if you are attending something at the Lincoln Center as I was. The lobby was beautiful, and the staff was accommodating, but I felt that the bathroom and the room was a little dated. It was very clean, but it was showing its age.
My friends heat never worked and she spent the whole night freezing. She called the front desk and Maintenance number at least 10 times and no answer. When she went down the next morning to complain, the guy at the front desk said it was her fault that she should’ve been calling zero even though the other numbers were on the phone. He did not offer to refund any money or anything and just was obstinate about it.

Poor
Location
I was locked out of my room and couldn’t enter for 3 days straight. They literally had to drill the door open every time I had to go in.
The facilities are so old, it really really needs a refresh!

Location was good,staff was nice.
Everything seemed inaccessible, the pool, the rooftop, etc. we stayed because we are fans of gossip girl and we weren’t able to even bring my teenagers on the roof to get a pic at night. Just overpriced for small beds, bad decor and mediocre hotel.

Beautiful property. Loved that it is the actual hotel from the show, Gossip Girl. The rooftop bar was beautiful and the service excellent. There were two enclosed areas with sofas overlooking the NY skyline which were extremely cozy. Very much enjoyed the Gossip Girl cocktail. The staff greeted us when we arrived in our cab and took our luggage inside for us. The room was spectacular and very spacious. It was close to the Columbus Circle subway station for easy access downtown. I will be staying here at the Empire Hotel every time I visit NY in the future.

Fantastic location on the Upper West Side. Our room was very large and had a lovely view of Lincoln Center, which was beautifully lit up at night. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We did not spend much time in the room but found it to be a great location and a perfect base for exploring. There were great restaurants within a stone’s throw.
Bathroom was a little tired and in need of a freshen up

Disappointing
The common areas such as the lobby are very beautiful, staff was very friendly and accommodating
The photos online are NOT current to what the hotel looks like today. Our rooms walls were chipped and peeling. Pillows were very old and flat, and dingy. Bed was very uncomfortable. Furniture needs updated as the wood was chipping And old. Very disappointed. Our heater did not work in the room so it got down to 54 degrees and stayed that way.

Poor
bellman staff
the disgusting filthy room, broken shower and tv, filthy floor, room smelled like mold... also there was a weird stain on my bed - so that was fun, when i went to the front of the house staff they all kept telling me they were the manager/team lead and not escalating my problem. - it was a joke - they do not care. O ave requested a refund on my stay and no one has gotten back to me

Very Good
The hotel is superbly located right near Lincoln Center. It is a beautiful building, well-staffed, with a comfortable and large lobby, although the bar has been closed for years, which is too bad because not everyone likes to take the elevator to go to the restaurant up there, just for a drink. a 3-minute walk to wonderful Central Park
The neighborhood is quite impersonal, with big buildings, some shops, and mostly tourists everywhere. We arrived on a Friday morning and could not check in till 3 pm. There was a line to drop our bags (1 person was working, 2 were just standing there). Then there was a bigger line at 2:30 when we came back to check in, although the staff was very efficient and professional. On the day of our checkout, we left early, and room service had already started at 8 am when we first went out for coffee and got locked out of our room upon our return. There should be a way to save rooms that check out early for people who check in early, which would avoid this congestion! The room was just OK, no coffee machine, no view, tiny sink, loud toilet, and loud heating system for $500 a night.

Disappointing
The location was excellent. Room was nothing to write home about, but reasonably comfortable.
My biggest complaint is that when we came back on Saturday night, our door was unlatched. When I told the desk clerk about it, their response amounted to “Oh…sorry.” Nothing was stolen, and I guess there’s no way to prove what happened, but it was enough to pretty much guarantee that I will never stay in the Empire Hotel again, nor recommend it to anyone again. I understand that accidents happen, but the fact that the staff seemed to take this as an “Oh, that’s a shame” situation really doesn’t inspire confidence.
