We had a really good stay overall. The hotel is in a great location, quite central and about a 20-minute walk from Times Square.
but the area is still nice and quiet.
It was also very convenient to get to JFK Airport.
The hotel was very clean and comfortable, and we really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend it!
The only downside was the Wi-Fi signal, which was quite weak in our room on the 12th floor.
It worked fine in the lobby, though.

The staff was amazing. Honestly above and beyond, so kind to my wild kids. I would 100% recommend San Carlos to anyone visiting with children. They were very helpful and accomodating with transportation, kid needs, etc.
Not my favorite location we've stayed in, but it wasn't awful. Still convenient to subway stops, just not quite as close to the specific things we were doing.

Historic building with character. “Goldilocks” size, meaning larger than a boutique hotel (thus well staffed) but small enough to be easily negotiable and not to feel overwhelmed. Amazingly fast and responsive elevators. Friendly service and management staff (who allowed us an extra hour at check-out time). Excellent location within a short walk of Grand Central Station and several subway lines.
Air conditioner in the sitting room (just a couple of feet from the sofa bed where one of us slept) was disturbingly noisy, but as the weather was fairly mild, we managed by simply turning it off. Sofa bed mattress wasn’t the most comfortable, but, hey, it’s a sofa bed. The mattress of the “proper” bed in the bedroom was just fine.

The location of the San Carlos is fantastic! Easy to walk to lots of sights, restaurants and convenience stores etc. The staff were lovely and really helpful. Didn’t use any amenities as we were only there for a couple of nights. All in all a great hotel, large room with coffee maker, microwave, hairdryer etc., and good value for money considering where we were.
The bed was small, a regular double but probably my own fault for not checking!

Large size room compared to most others. Great staff. And the elevator was fast!!!

The staff was wonderful, and the room was spacious for Manhattan!
The gym could have been a bit better equipped, but you get the basic training done there, so it is enough.
