After staying at a chic but impractical hotel in the Meatpacking District, it was nice to come to the San Carlos Hotel -- a hotel for adults rather than hipsters. Friendly staff, clean room, comfortable bed, and bathroom with a door rather than glass (!)

It’s a bit worn. Scratches on the wood in the elevators, some paint needs to be touched up in the room. Light seeps through the hotel door at night. Noise from the room that could be adjoining.

We loved everything! The location is perfect for navigating any part of the city. Our room was spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed. The kitchenette was a great bonus. So many NYC hotels do not provide this.
There was some early morning construction outside that we could hear (perhaps that is why they are offering a discount this summer). But, we are early risers, so it wasn’t a problem.

Good value for a 2 bedroom larger suite in the city. Great location, can walk to Time Square, 5th Ave, Central Park and many shops and restaurants. No valet, but was able to park a couple streets away for about $50/night.
No bellman to help load bags in car, not much variety of restaurant in hotel, towels are low quality/rough. No bar or lounge area. Not much amenity to the hotel, really just a place to sleep. Room was quiet for NYC standards.

We spent 5 nights here as a family with 3 adults in one of the junior suites. The staff was great and gave us excellent advise on restaurants, subway, and touring options to complement our planning. I used the in-house gym a few times alone and it was fine. The coffee was also good to start the day.
NYC is loud at night! Throughout our stay there were multiple fire, ambulance, and trash service noises at night that woke me up but my wife and daughter slept right through.

We would especially like to thank the housekeeping team. Our room was cleaned every day, and our water was replenished daily. The location was very convenient and close to everything. We were very satisfied with our stay.
The only slightly tiring part was that the shower head was fixed and not detachable
