We have stayed in many different hotels and neighbourhoods in Manhattan over the years on a realistic budget. And this was great, Midtown East halfway between Central Park and Times Square and a few blocks from Rockefeller Centre and the Park Avenue Glamour , so perfectly situated (and also very close to Subway) but in a fairly quiet neighbourhood with good local shops, cafes, restaurants and a little set back from the bustle (relatively!). The rooms by new york standards were a decent size and were clean and comfortable and very well equipped. Beds and linen were nice. There was a nice business centre/lounge with free computer use and printing and a pleasant lobby area. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and nothing too much trouble and everything in the room worked. We would stay there again any time. There was also a well equipped small fitness centre on floor 3. And there were good local places to eat - including a traditional family diner right across the road and Essa Bagels just over 3rd avenue. Walking to central park or theatre district or Grand central was only 15-20 mins max
No criticism and would very happily stay again. (which i would not say for all NYC hotels we have been too). But for those who like their hotel to have its own bar and restaurant and Breakfast you won't find this there (though you can go right over the road for a meal or a coffee or some pastries or a drink so meh)

Decor is very dated, not enough power sockets in room - and half of those that were there didn’t work. Bath wouldn’t drain. No bar or restaurant.

Very goog hotel, in a quiet area for NYC. We were 5 persons, rooms are quite large, and there is a small kitchenette, very useful for breakfast and coffee/the Staff is very nice and helpful

We enjoyed our stay at San Carlos hotel in midtown manhattan Spacious room for a family of 4 , comfy beds and pillows, excellent daily cleaning, friendly staff. Location is great, within walking distance to everything and very close to the public transport. Safe neighborhood, restaurants and cafe' in the area, close to grand central station
