The staff were friendly and tried to help us as much as they could
It is outdated, noisy and so expensive. We booked it thinking that it is an old fashion apartment with kitchen and a bedroom. But there is no kitchen, just a simple coffee machine and a microwave. The furniture, beds, carpet and bathroom are outdated and so uncomfortable. But the worst is the noise, you hear everything from the streets so loud, we couldn’t sleep at all… and we paid so much for it… such a disappointment! we left early and asked for a refund.

This hotel is in a great midtown location. They offered to store our bags for a few days while we went out of town, which was one reason we chose them. The price was very reasonable compared to similar hotels (during the world cup). The room had everything we needed8 even though it was basic and slightly in need of updating.
The room we were allocated was on the second floor, looking directly onto a wall of another building and next to the conference rooms. There were frequently conference people spilling out of meeting rooms making it awkward to access our room. It was probably because we booked through a third party booking tool - I am sure there are better rooms. It also had barely any natural light. It was however clean and had what we needed.

I Love the location! You’re a 10 minute walk from Grand Central, 5 from Rockefeller Plaza, 12-15 from the theater district and the park. A look up the street to view the beautiful Chrysler building lit up at night, and around the corner from St. Patrick’s Cathedral. No subway necessary. All the highlights are within walking distance. The staff is always so pleasant and helpful. They will hold your bags before check in and after checkout if you’re still exploring. Everything is immaculately clean - so much better than a chain hotel. Linens are fresh, coffee, tea and water provided and the air conditioning is superb! I slept better than in my own home! I truly love this hotel!

Good midtown location on the east side, very very clean and comfortable. Close to Rockefeller center and other attractions in NYC.

Wonderful hotel with amazing location! The rooms were huge for NY standard, the staff were amazing--front desk, housekeeping, all very responsive. Room stays cool with dedicated AC for each room. The hotel does look a bit dated but sometimes thats a good thing when you want to experience NYC in a classy way because everything else was spot on. They even provided umbrellas for those rainy days. Location was outstanding, pretty close to the main tourist spots--Rockefeller, Summit 1 and grand central--all within 15 minutes walk. The neighborhood was wonderful so much stores and food options it was overwhelming sometimes. The restaurant, adjacent to the hotel, was fantastic--Indian/Chinese fusion and all the food were delicious as well. Overall, I highly recommend it, one of the best value in Midtown Manhattan!
If there is a tiny bit that I would like to change--it would be to update the toilets to elongated toilets.

I have been staying at the San Carlos since the early 90’s and I am amazed how they have managed to get a very high rating here in Booking.com. After my 10 day stay, I can say that all the good reviews are very well deserved.
Special thanks to Evelyn, Krystal, Victor, Michael and everybody else for making our stay a memorable one.
The hotel is clean and very well maintained. Close by our convenience stores and lots of restaurants. The subway is just around the corner.
We’ll definitely book this hotel again next time we’re in the Big Apple.
