Its location was perfect, close to everything but in a nice, quieter area - subway was close by as were shops and restaurants and walking distance to Central Park and Times Square etc…

Ideal location, friendly staff, large room compared to Manhattan standards (we had a Elite One-Bedroom Suite King), ideal for 2 adults & 2 kids.
Well equipped kitchen (I asked for a kettle when we arrived and they added it within 10 minutes) and storage space in the room.
Bottles of water added every day.
The king bed was comfortable but the mattress had a low sleeping independence.
Classical for Manhattan but worth being noted for 'new' travelers: Midtown is a super busy and noisy neighborhood and except if you are a heavy sleeper, don't forget your earplugs!

There was nothing we didn’t like about the property.
We did feel that one or two staff lacked empathy to our situation with our card providers who suspended our payment card due to suspecting fraudulent activity being a Sunday we were unable to phone to verify it was us. Luckily i had another card to honour the holding deposit but we were made to feel it was unaffordable situation and I not sure what we would of done had i not had the other card. I even demonstrated the message i received from the card provider as evidence.
It was a shame as it was clearly initially stressful for us

It had fridge, microwave and sink. Great location and easy to get around the city from here.
Noisy! Not used to horns and fire truck sounds at night. But you get used to it. Not hotels fault just the noise of New York.

San Carlos Hotel is very good location and can walk around midtown easily but lots of walking ! We had a Elite Suite 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and a sitting room which sofa turned into a comfy bed 2 TV,s n an area with table n small kitchen area fridge coffee maker n coffee was provided every day! Idea for a family of 4 sightseeing n parents have some privacy with separate bedroom but safe knowing close to children in same hotel suit! It's a bit outdated but very very clean and towels changed every day, sheets everything spotless n a safe area upper east side close by with some lovely restaurant all types! Time sq a 10 min walk away n lots of subway links we used it during d day safe n easy to use with Google maps n pay tap credit card $2.90 per ride anywhere which is good ! Traffic mental taxi rides are expensive n can take longer due to one way streets
Loved hotel, but rooms are not sound proof at all ww were only 5 th floor maybe higher up but ours were noisy n bin collection at 2,3,4 city never sleeps bring ear plugs or maybe if u book directly with hotel u can ask for soundproof room! We never complained as the children slept fine! We're very light sleepers

The San Carlos is a classic old-school New York hotel kept in pristine condition. The rooms are large, very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The mini-kitchenette was a huge bonus—so nice to have plates, bowls, and silverware for leftovers, making oatmeal in the morning, etc. Finally, the location is excellent—close to subway and bus stops, just a few blocks north of Grand Central, and totally walkable to anything in Midtown. It will be my new go-to hotel in NYC.

Everything was great, room was clean and big, location is great, staff are friendly . Sure will be back to this hotel once we are in NYC.
Only the sofa bad is not comfortable, it’s better to provide extra thin mattress to add it over the sofa to be comfortable.

It’s a bit worn, could do with a refurb and they don’t have a kitchen/food.
