Spacious rooms with plush-top beds and flat-panel HDTVs, with Rockefeller Center three blocks away, provide a great Gotham getaway for our guests at Doubletree by Hilton Metropolitan Hotel. Designed by the renowned Morris Lapidus in 1959, the 20-floor Metropolitan has a retro modernist exterior shaped like a perpendicular blue wave. The hotel has a fun history: the famous scene in "The Seven Year Itch" where a subway vent blows Marilyn Monroe's skirt up was filmed in front of the hotel. The 759 contemporary rooms have granite countertops, flat-panel HDTVs, Wi-Fi (surcharge) and signature Doubletree beds with custom-designed mattresses, baffle-box, down blankets, and high-thread-count cotton linens with triple sheeting. Property amenities include a restaurant, a lounge, a fitness center and concierge service. Valet parking is available for an additional fee. The Doubletree is at Lexington and 51st Street in Midtown Manhattan. LaGuardia Airport is eight miles, JFK is 16 miles, and Newark Airport is 15 miles from the hotel. All of the Big Apple, and we mean all of it, can be viewed from the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, three blocks west. Radio City Music Hall is four blocks, and the Theatre District is five blocks west. It's a short stroll east to the East River and the United Nations. A subway stop is next to the hotel.

Loved Vicki at the front desk! She was welcoming and very pleasant! She accomodated us so perfectly. She is a great asset to this hotel .
Room #602 needs love the bathroom door is a mess at the bottom and the ventilation was horrible when you used the shower . The thermostat did not work properly as well .

Excellent
Location was great! checking in was easy and valet parking was excellent. I like how easy the checking in/out was. Would stay again. close to times square, but just far away enough to not be caught in all that congestion
Did not like how the bathroom was not clean enough to my expectations. The tub felt like residue, the shower walls were covered in residue. Did not like bathroom at all.

Poor
Well. The list could go on, and on about what I didn’t enjoy. Let’s start with the fact that I had booked a “high” room. Although it was only a few floors up. Also, I myself have been a part of the hospitality industry for years. Cleanliness just did NOT meet my standards or the standards I’d hold my own rooms too. There was dust EVERYWHERE and on top of the headboard especially. The toilet paper that was on the holder when we checked in, was almost all the way GONE before we even had a chance to use it!! There was water damage all over the ceilings, and large cracks & chips in the paint. The tub was atrocious. Definitely needed a better clean. Magic erasers May work wonders. The sink still had soup left on it from the previous guests. I mean I know some things get missed but COME ON, some things are just a bit gross. The shower head was coming out of the wall! Mold in the corners of the tub. Just NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE. DID NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS. Let’s not forget to mention the smell of weed EVERYWHERE on our floor. Gave me the worst headache, and I didn’t appreciate my clothes picking up the smell. & lastly, a guy running the “Hilton honors” sat there getting my family excited about receiving $150-$200 gift card, although once he completed setting up a time for us to go to the seminar and pick it up, he had us fill out a paper, and asked if I made $150,000 a year (which I do not) and then once he found that out basically told me that I looked like I made that kind of money and that now he can’t make any commission off me and so he wasted his time trying to sell me. Ridiculous if you ask me. Needless to say WILL NOT RETURN. I’d give ZERO stars if the review would let me.

Location and the staff was amazing
Paint peeling from the ceiling. Rust on the bathtub was a little too obvious. The room could stand some fresh paint and freshening up.

Disappointing
The only good thing about this hotel is the location. A reasonable distance to Central Park and the Museums. Also many cafes nearby for a quick breakfast. TO be fair, beddings and towels were clean despite its somewhat 2-3 star standards!
This hotel is NOT WORTHY of its 4 star rating.. more like 2-3 stars! It really needs refurbishment. Our Junior suite was a reasonable size but the bathroom was so tiny! The sofa bed was not working so Housekeeping had to bring in a roll away bed for my son. Housekeeping staff were not very thorough in their cleaning. I could see hair everywhere! the reception staff were not very nice. The hotel lobby was always very full of weary travellers either waiting to check in or just waiting after having to check out too early .. a sign of a very overbooked hotel! I would not consider booking at the Doubletree again!

Location & value
When I went to check-in early, the first receptionist never bothered to ask my name, or even strike a single key on the keyboard. She Just told me to go & come back in 1 hour. When I returned an hour later, she still did Not take my name or strike a single key! saying "no rooms available yet". I waited in lobby for 5min until that clerk walked away. Then I went to the next receptionist who checked my reservation against available rooms and within 6min sold me an upgrade that put me in room a right there & then.

Very Good
Took a long time trying to turn on the hot water for shower. Huge tip for foreigners like myself: turn the knot all the way to the end and wait for like five minutes..
Hot water was not easy to manage (it’s either super hot or super cold)
