Location only really. View was ok from the 22nd floor
The property tried to take the full payment the night before I arrived and this blocked all my cards meaning when I got there the cards wouldn’t work and they were of very little help. I tried to pay 5 different ways and none of it worked. After 16 hours travel it wasn’t ideal. Took me running to an stm to get the cash and I’m not sure how much was taken.
There where no toilets to use in the lobby and the lifts where terrible, dirty and a terrible smell of weed. The room was basic and most fixtures were loose. The shower pressure was horrendous and kept cutting on and off and the air conditioning was too loud to leave on. Very poor all round.
The lights were faulty too with one main light between the two beds. There were a complete lack of facilities and I’m disappointed with the poor service. I should have stayed somewhere else and I contacted about my deposit not being returned and a month later have heard nothing. Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in over the years.

Good
Well, I’ll try to be as thorough as possible in this review, because before booking, I spent weeks looking through options and reviews of possible hotels until we finally chose Sheraton Brooklyn. It was our first time in New York City, and I had no idea hotels were so expensive (I mean, I knew they were expensive, but I didn’t expect them to be THAT expensive). I also didn’t know hotels could be so bad unless you’re able to spend $5k–10k USD for one week (reviews for “affordable” hotels in the city are always terrible, with guests reporting dirt, noise, blood stains, filthy carpets, bed bugs, etc.). So honestly, I was horrified and very scared of making the wrong choice within the budget we had.
That being said, here are the positive points about Sheraton Brooklyn:
- The location is excellent. Even though it’s outside the island, you can still be at the best spots in Manhattan in 20–25 minutes.
- The neighborhood is excellent too. It has everything you might need — bars, restaurants, cafés, stores like Target, Five Below, Burlington, etc. I spent an entire morning walking around and shopping in the area, and it was wonderful.
- The bed is very comfortable. We slept really well.
- The room is spacious, with a wardrobe, dresser, desk for working remotely if needed, and a TV.
- There were always fresh towels. The bathroom was “tidied” daily, and they always left a complimentary bottle of water.
Negative points:
...But a tidied bathroom is different from a clean bathroom. The showerhead had mold/slime in all the water outlets. The shower curtain was dirty. The shower and sink drains were clogged.
- I accidentally dropped some translucent powder (makeup) on the floor in front of the mirror during the first days — believe it or not, that powder stayed there until the end of our stay. I also dropped my phone under the bed while charging it, and when I picked it up, it was covered in dust. So I believe they only make the bed and organize the bathroom daily. Cleaning? Nope.
- The shower had no pressure. Washing my hair was almost painfully difficult.
- The Wi-Fi doesn’t work well. So if you need Wi-Fi, I’d suggest getting a good eSIM with strong internet.
- About three times, the key card stopped working (after long walks around the city), and one time when my husband went to reactivate it at reception, there was a huge check-in line — and yes, they told him to wait in line, so it took about 30 minutes to be helped.
- Our room had an extra door besides the main entrance door. That “extra” door connected directly to the room next door. And yes, you could hear the guest next door sneezing or turning on the TV when they woke up. We were lucky not to have noisy neighbors, but I found it terrible that two rooms were separated only by a door.
- Oh, and if you’re amazed by the rooftop view (like I was), be aware that the rooftop is closed, and according to the receptionist, there’s no reopening date.
If you asked me: Would you stay at Sheraton Brooklyn again?
I’d say yes. But for the price, I’d rather choose a smaller room in a cleaner, newer hotel on the island itself.
