The check-in experience could have not been worse: they tried to charge us again the resort fee (that we had paid through Booking - luckily we had the receipt at hand) and they gave us a room of a lower category, with a small window giving to the main hallway, where everyone was passing by. It took us a long time to get the room that we had paid for.

Wonderful
The location was so convenient to transport, restaurants and areas I’d want to see. This hotel repurposes a former newspaper headquarters and incorporates whimsical reminders of that past in its decor throughout the building. It feels solid with plenty of inviting spaces to relax. And the room was quiet and very comfortable. A good combination of vintage flair and modern conveniences.
Some of the hallways looked a bit gloomy and deserted, and the directional signs to numbers, elevators and such weren’t always easy to see.

The property met my expectations. It was a beautiful hotel. I loved our rooms and the facilities in them. The beds were very comfortable. I appreciated the fact that breakfast was complimentary in each room, and we enjoyed having breakfast at the hotel. The gym surpassed my expectations. It had the equipment my family and I needed.
I did not like the exorbitant cost of valet parking. We were not informed of the valet charge until we were about to check out. The charge of $60 per night is costly for valet parking. I recommend that guests be informed of the charge upon arrival.

Character, style, high ceilings, location, food.
I was charged a “resort fee” for my stay. I’ve stayed at several resorts in my life - I would not include this hotel in my list of resorts. I spoke with the front desk regarding this title and was told it’s considered a resort because guests are given a daily pass for the street cars, and a welcome drink (punch). This is my second stay at the Eliza Jane, I likely will not return to this location due to this unexpected and unwarranted fee.

This is a beautiful hotel with no Wiley decorated rooms in a central location. The room was very clean and housekeeping did a great job. The beds were comfortable and the room temperature at the end of April was comfortable when we turned off the A/C at night.
They provide public transport tickets, water (it would have been nice to have 4 bottles not 2 though as we were 4 people) and coffee/tea is replenished every day.
The valet parking was very expensive. Almost 63 CHF per day is too much. We chose not to use it. The room we had was overlooking a side alley and every day at around 5 am a garbage truck came and made a lot of noise for a good 15 minutes. I woke up every single morning because of the noise. Otherwise it was a quiet location.
