It’s location
Super dirty, smelly, small, nearly no amenities, parking lot was super exposed. Had to turn key in every time we left the building (invites the possibility of staff just freely coming into our space while we were gone

I like Earl the clerk. Need new linen and clean fridge in rooms and air freshener. Dirty linen when I checked in. The maintenance didn't come out immediately for the cold water. I complained several times. The pilot blew out was the problem. They didn't check right away kept saying everyone was using hot water. I emphatically told them to check. I was right. I will stay here again due to staff and willingness of the staff to accommodate.

Hotel was in close proximity of the French Quarter. Staff was extremely friendly.
I'm not one to complain, but this place was a nightmare! By far, the worst place that I've ever stayed. Door to the room barely locked. Bathroom tile was loose and coming up. Tub was horrendous. Bed linens looked dirty. I chose to sleep on top of the covers. Thankfully, we only had to stay one night.

The staff are great. Friendly & helpful.
The location is 2 very walkable blocks to the French Quarter.
I feel very conflicted about the Empress Motel. Mostly because the location is really great and, I can’t stress enough, the staff is friendly and very helpful. The staff at this motel is by far better than staff at any of the nicer hotels I’ve ever stayed in. That being said; The bed was really terrible. It was not supported properly, so drastically sagged in the middle. It was wrapped, loosely, in very crackly, noisy plastic. The sheets were very scratchy and did not fit the bed correctly so they could come off and bunch up. Each night would end up sleeping on that weird plastic. My wife and I stayed here about 10 years ago; at that time, there were small tables, shelves, hooks to hang things on, etc in the rooms. There was one small, old side table (no drawer) from someone’s living room & an old dining room chair. I actually found a set of plastic drawers while I was out walking. I picked it up and brought it back to the room. Just to have some place to set a glass of water. I left it in the room for the next person. There is absolutely no place in the bathroom to put anything, except the back of the toilet. No towel bars, no shelf, no organizer of any type. The window unit AC in room really struggled to keep up. When everything was still, and we were sleeping or out, the room would cool down. Every time we were up and moving about or going in and out of the door, it got very warm very fast and took a long time to cool back down.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to make me confertable.
It would be nice to have a rug next to the bed. The floors are cold. The room did not have a chest of drawers to put my clothes away. I stayed 5 days, and no laundry room for the guest. The hotel only had one microwave in the building. They did not have a computer for the guest to use that were out of state and needed to do work. I have heart problems & cannot drink regular coffee. NO DECAFF

Location
It is very old, uncomfortable beds, and very small. The place needs to be updated. There were holes in the walls and the outlets didn’t work

Just the localization
All!!!! This hotel is to be avoided!!! When we arrived in the room, we discovered a very small room worthy of a prison cell, very unsanitary, not clean at all, there was still hair in the bathtub and on the toilet, the mattress of the bed was taped to hide the holes, we even saw cockroaches!!!! The photos are misleading and date back 4 years. We did not want to stay to sleep even for one night and they refused to reimburse us for no reason!!! This hotel should be banned from booking how is it possible to offer this type of accommodation?? Then I don't even know why they have one star!!
Thank you for your information!
