It was a very charming hotel.
My only complaint was the air freshener or cleaning supplies (maybe) were a fragrance that was very irritating to my allergies. My eyes were and burning while in my room.

Golden Gate Park was our main destination, the view and proximity was exactly right outside the front door, with a short crosswalk between hotel guests and the park. The park's gardens were so beautiful, with exhibits and live music to enjoy. The Stanyan retains a classic vintage style, yet the property maintenance is so above par, it is seemingly brand new! Fresh finishes, crisp and very clean. We felt very welcome upon arrival, and received an upgrade to a larger room. Any request or inquiry we made was met with enthusiasm and attention. I would love to return to this hotel on our next visit, and explore more of San Fransisco. This was a perfect stay!
Being from the desert, we are used to central A.C. along with fans, so the noise and motion of air moving through the night is part of our sleeping experience.
A small bedside fan, or white noise machine would be the single improvement I can think of, but I have no actual complaints, our stay was perfect.

I have traveled extensively around the world and this is, by far, THE MOST PLEASANT HOTEL I've ever been in. I stayed in this hotel at least twice each year for the last 5 years, and had consistent experience. The front desk staff has been there for as long as I can remember - they are kind, helpful, pleasant, with great communications skills. The room is comfortable and many of the rooms face to the park. Often there is parking right across the street (which is amazing considering this is "kissing" the Golden Gate Park) so I can see my car through the window! There is also a paid parking lot right around the corner. They only have 36 rooms and they serve a very nice breakfast with great attention to hygiene (e.g. the bagels are in sealed bags). I have great respect for this establishment!

It a nice hotel with awesome friendly staff.
I had a second store street room and the noise from the street would wake me up. Also, while they provide breakfast it was the same for the four days that I was there. I also liked the fact that the golden gate park is right outside the door.

Location, historic, quiet room, comfortable beds, blackout shades, friendly and helpful staff, luggage storage before and after check-in/check-out, nearby paid parking
Breakfast lacked freshness and originality. Scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs were okay. But fruits and vegetables were limited to bottled juices, bananas and overripe tangerines. Pastries were sadly presented in individual cellophane wrappers. Decor of breakfast room, however, was thoughtful and creative (included photos of Haight-Ashbury legends of the 1960s).

Very Good
most of the time my room has been fine but the last time the room was small and I would not stay in that room again. If a beeter room is not available I will stay at the Hyatt or 4 Seasons. Money is not the issue, the staff and location make my decision.
The room I was given was below my expectations.

Location was great and very friendly staff. The afternoon wine and snacks was fab and the breakfast was what it was -if you want more you can go elsewhere but it suited us!
