Disappointing
I really liked the overall aesthetic of the hotel. It was really well designed and very well maintained in terms of cleanliness. My favorite was the lobby.
My flight got in late in the evening and I got to my hotel room in preparation to go out to dinner. After dinner I realized that my room had zero wifi. None what so ever. I let the front desk know and they had me move rooms. I packed all my stuff and moved that night. Shortly after unpacking my bags I relaized that the new room they put me in did not have AC and the front desk did not warn me. It was so hot in San Francisco that weekend too. The hotel offered me to change rooms again but I needed to unpack and then wait in the lobby for a new room. At that point, I didn't want to roulette my chances and I stuck with staying. They got me three fans but still the stay was uncormfortable to say the least.

Poor
This was an unfortunate experience :( it had so much potential to be a great stay, but it all went wrong.
The hotel itself is very tastefully decorated, and well-located. It’s a good size too, not a huge hotel, and not too tiny. The kind of hotel generally look for.
The price was not cheap, but it was in line with what you’d expect in that area of San Francisco, which is generally pretty pricey.
The front desk clerk mentioned that building is 115 years old, and although they’ve done a very good job renovating and giving the space a facelift, the building is still evidently hard to maintain. The floors creak and the walls are thin. Not much anyone can do about those sorts of things, but still affects a hotel stay.
There’s a pretty lively restaurant and bar on the second floor, which is managed separately from the hotel. They have live bands playing on some nights, and loud music on the other nights. But loud every night of the week and until late into the night.
Our room was on the 3rd floor, situated directly above the restaurant/bar, and the music reverberated right up through our room as if we were inside the bar. It was, needless to say, impossible to sleep, and this was a super important work trip for me, I had to give big presentations in the mornings, and ended up not sleeping.
When I spoke to the front desk to ask them to handle the loud music late at night situation, I was told that they couldn’t help because the bar is managed separately from the hotel. So I went in my pyjamas and slippers to the bar to get them to lower the noise, which they kind of recently did by just a tiny bit and only on that one night I got out of bed to do that.
Things were already not going so well, but then one of the nights we got woken up at 3:30am by the smoke alarm in our room which really shook us up. We weren’t sure if it was building-wide or just in our room, so we got dressed to rush outside, but all was quiet in the rest of the hotel. So when we spoke to the front desk clerk on duty, things took a turn for then worse. She first joked that it’s probably ghosts in our room. Then when I asked her not to make a joke of this, as it was a serious issue for me having a big conference presentation to give in the morning, she told me that it’s just the battery in the smoke detector that needs to be changed (apparently she was aware). I asked if she could arrange it so that we could sleep without going off again, and she rudely told me that she already did everything she could by telling me what it was and that she can’t do anything more for now, so I should talk to someone during business hours - then she hung up on me! I was shocked.
So the next day I started asking for help on the issue from the staff and sending messages to them through the booking.com inbox, and for the next 2-3 days I had zero reply on anything and no help on the issue.
So I ended up deciding to check out early and not stay for the rest of my booked time there, because of the nightly bar noise, the smoke detector issue that was still never resolved or even looked at, and the complete lack of response on anything. I got a refund through the booking.com priority customer support team for that remaining part of my booking after I left.
So in conclusion, it had the potential to be a very good stay, but went in very much the opposite direction.
Maybe it’s not always like this, maybe this was an off-moment for this hotel, but it was my one experience there, and it was pretty bad.
For context, I've left 41 other reviews on booking.com, all positive. But unfortunately, I’d have to recommend that people avoid staying at Palihotel SF.

Wonderful
The room exceeded expectations. I had a room at the end of the hall and it was massive. The biggest hotel room I had ever seen. Bed was so comfy. The room was thoughtfully designed to perfection, the bathroom was spacious and luxurious and had amazing diptique toiletries.
No washroom in lobby, have to go upstairs through the bar to access it. When the bar is closed an employee has to walk you over to the bar and open it up just for you to use the washroom which is kind of an inconvenience. Oh also, they did not offer wine glasses when I wanted to enjoy a bottle of wine in the hotel room, which I mean for being a hotel with a bar you would think the staff would go out of their way to at least get you some wine glasses.
