Loved the uniqueness and charm of this boutique hotel in the heart of San Francisco. The super friendly staff at the desk and bar that made me feel welcome. I will definitely stay here again, because this hotel offers excellent value.

Location was great - very close to Union Square and downtown. Front desk staff were excellent and very responsive. We had an issue with the first room we were allocated. Room was changed immediately. I particularly want to mention Orion on Front Desk and the night staff Panda and Mark who were excellent. The other front desk staff (sorry I don't have names) were also very attentive. They went to great lengths to try and locate a pair of eye glasses that my wife thought she had mislaid in the bedroom.
The fact that the bar closed at 10pm was disappointing.

I booked this hotel because it was near to the things we were going to be participating in. When arriving we saw that the decor was a bit quirky and dark in color and lighting, however we did not mind that. When arriving on the 5th floor we smelled a marijuana smell but hoped it was only from someone passing through who may have just smoked marijuana outside? Unfortunately we experienced a strong marijuana odor throughout the night. It was difficult to breathe and made it very uncomfortable for us to sleep. Especially for my husband who suffers from allergies and asthma. We contacted the staff the next day and told them of our experience but did not get a response from them. We spoke with staff later that afternoon. The response was with a smirk “well it’s probably just because it was a Saturday night, so probably just a one time thing” I was somewhat shocked that was his response and we were given no other help with the situation. We told him if it happens again we would be checking out the next day. And we would expect a refund. It did happen again, we told them we were checking out. The person said they would talk to the manager. They called us back and said they would still need to charge us for an additional night. We said “no, we will be checking out and we want a refund” they said we would need to contact booking.com which we did. And thanks to booking.com they did refund us for the additional nights. If it hadn’t been for booking.com I don’t think they would have refunded us. I do feel the entire stay should have been refunded. We chose this hotel expecting a clean and healthy environment, and this really impacted our experience. And was unacceptable? We received no compensation from the hotel for our unacceptable experience, we had to pack and leave and relocate for the remainder of our trip which disrupted our plans and overall trip experience. Sharing this is to help others to be aware before booking this hotel.
