Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere
The people above me making way too much noise at 2am one night. I think they were packing up and leaving but still they were stomping around like elephants. Please be quiet at this hotel the floors are old

Good
Pleasant surroundings- nice to have linens and plates - typical “white bread - American diet”all carbohydrates!
Beds and pillows poor quality.

Loved the decor! The clawfoot tub was wonderful to soak in after a long day of walking around the city. Bed was comfortable. Good location, convenient from public transit, easy walk to Japantown and found some great breakfast and dining in the surrounding area.
Room was a bit stuffy, would have liked to be able to open window instead of turning on the window unit air conditioner. Breakfast was not very good.

I don't think I'll ever forget about this hotel. If you want to stay in a historic hotel but have the rooms feel like a best western, this is not the hotel for you. However, if you want your rooms to have historic furniture and lamps, look no further. It's what I've wanted from a historic hotel, and it's exceeded every expectation. It's a rare experience really in a time when every historic hotel becomes generic. The room is really clean, and the bed and couch are extremely comfortable. From the lobby, you will see just how unique this place is. The location is so amazing as it's just on the corner of Japantown, so it's extremely safe and convenient. I genuinely want to thank this place for preserving history and allowing us to stay in it.
Since we stayed a week, just wish the breakfast included one more fresh item beyond eggs.

I loved the staff, they were all so friendly and amazing. Would go back just for that. However, the room was gorgeous, my wife and I stayed in the symphony sweet, worth every penny. The facilities met my expectations as far as seeing what you get, I would highly recommend it to family or friends looking for a romantic getaway or a single person looking for peace. There is even a ghost tour that comes to the hotel! If you're into spooky history, however, we were not lucky enough to see any spirits beyond what they had at the hotel bar.
It was a bit far from certain locations, causing a small price hike in the Uber and Waymo services. Japantown is super close, but the Peace Pagoda is currently under construction so its not super visible. The parking garagres near the hotel are a bit expensive but nothing out of the ordinary of San Francisco. Overall, there was not much we have to complain about it, the stay was excellent.

Location is nice. Mom is in assisted living 3 blocks away. Bartender was a nice guy to talk with. Breakfast was good.
Lots of hot water in the shower but essentially no cold water. The fitness center has been cleaner on previous visits. With the Salesforce meeting in town, room prices are much higher cutting your value proposition.

Hotel was beautiful, perfect area. Parking not too far away. Our room was small and gorgeously decorated, so charming. Breakfast was pretty good. The people at the front desk were so friendly and helpful and very professional.

The hotel is beautiful and the bartender is a cocktail wiz. The tower rooms are large and spacious and the bathrooms are very modern.
We had a room on the third floor in the corner overlooking the intersection of the streets, it was incredibly noise at all hours. Next time we'll request a room away from the street even if it means not having a good view. The included breakfast was mediocre at best. For San Fran being such a food city, I was expecting something a little better than two types of cereal and generic muffins for breakfast.

Pleasant
The location is amazing and super close to the bus. The breakfast was great and the girls who refreshed the food were so attentive and kind.
It smelled super musty like an old library. The decor is a bit ominous, with lots of old portraits or heads staring at you. It reminded us of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland.
When we got to our suite it was well appointed and spacious, but we got grossed out when we pulled out the couch bed and it was filthy! There were crumbs and hair all over it. We called the manager who came in with a set of sheets, saw what we were dealing with, and promptly called housekeeping to come in and completely strip the bed and change everything.
The dining area was the same way- hair and crumbs all over the floor and on the seats. The food was great and the service was fine, but it was just kind of gross.

Fair
The location was prime. A lot of shops are near and a restaurant on the first floor. Tall ceilings and a nice old style decor.
Honestly, the building is old. There is an expectation that it is going to act like an old building. That being said... You could hear everything. The people above me, I could hear them walk all the time. The shower had the hot and cold reversed, which almost caused me to fall. The shower head sprayed water EVERYWHERE. There was also a water spot on the ceiling from a previous leak and it looked like it was getting worse. The AC in the room was basically a glorified fan and did nothing on the hot days. The room size was also small, tall ceilings though, but small. The fridge was also so tiny! There is so much wasted space and potential in that room. At the very least, put in a half fridge. This quarter mini fridge was backbreaking and barely held anything. Lastly, put a coffee maker and microwave in each room. These small things would have improved my visit vastly.
