Absolutely beautiful boutique hotel decorated with wonderful photos from the best generation. So tastefully decorated and so clean and comfy. The sherry in the afternoon was a delightful addition. Staying here with a highlight of our trip!!

Location is great. Plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. Plus City Lights bookstore and Cantina records.
The entrance staircase can be challenging for some.

Really quirky and unusual hotel in a great location. The lady on the front desk was great and there's free Sherry in the afternoons.
Our room didn't look out on to anything really, just kind of a gap between buildings.

Good location, friendly staff, good mattress. Good water pressure and warm water. Spacious room.
Carpets always feel dirty and smelly. When I first stepped in to the hotel, it smelled like cow poo. Room was very dark (not enough lighting). Very steep steps directly from the outside door. The room was very cold in the evening, but heater heated very well. Blankets were very worn, hopefully from plenty of washing.

We love the history and feel of the building and room. It truly embraces the spirit of San Francisco.
Great restaurants (breakfast at Mama's, dinner at Mona Lisa #3, the Stinking Rose, and Piccolo Forno) , cafes and bars ( we love Johnny at Comstock) and the Washington Square Park are convenient delights. You can get your dog fix at Washington Square, too!
Great walking neighborhood and if you're feeling energetic, walk up to and around Coit Tower and take in those terrific views! And a visit to the iconic City Lights Bookstore is a treat.
We were on the second floor. A recirculating pump for hot water and volume control on the shower will cut down on water wasted waiting for hot water.

I would recommend this hotel again and again! We walked from this hotel to Chinatown, North Beach, Club Fugazi, all the shops and eateries.
