very cozy building, multiple floors so it does not feel crowded. shared bathroom and common areas were always clean.
Shared dorm room can get stuffy since the ventilation system is lacking in an old building.

The location.
I've stayed at a bunch of HI Hostels in Canada, so I'm totally gonna compare them to this one. The room was super dim, and the lights kept flickering. The carpet felt like it needed a good scrub. The bathroom door wouldn't close right. I even saw spiders in the bathroom and by my bed! And get this, no fans anywhere, not even a little table fan. It was kinda hard for me to sleep since I always sleep with a fan on.
Honestly, I booked this place because the other HI hostels were so lively with events and a social scene. This San Francisco Downtown one just didn't have that vibe. I was expecting something different and didn't get that same hostel joy.
The biggest bummer was the construction outside. I couldn't open the windows or see the street, so I felt totally cooped up whenever I was in my room.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The coffee available was nice and it was located exactly where I needed to be. Plenty of nearby dining options near by as well.
I didn't like that my bedding was on my mattress but not prepared . I shouldn't have to put my sheets on myself . It was neither easy nor convenient being on the upper bed.

The hostel was grimy. Dirty showers, toilets and carpets all around. Also, no social atmosphere - most guests seem to be there for work or conferences, so common spaces are taken over by people on zoom calls or working on their laptops. No events within the hostel to meet other people. And on top of that, the staff is very stand-offish and unhelpful. Generally, a miserable experience.

Kitchen has all the facilities: stove, microwave oven even oven. A lot of utensils.
The space over the head for the bottom bunk of a bed should be more.
It would be good if they would be 20cm higher.
It was uncomfortable to sit straight in the bed.

It’s near to all, you have a lot of stores, restaurants near.
The building (inside and outside) it’s a little old, (they’re doing changes outside now, so, I hope they work also inside).
But in general are ok the amenities in the hostel
