Wonderful
The Golden Gate Hotel has terrific, old-school but well-maintained ambience. The location is great (just 5min from Chinatown, 10min from Union), and the price-point is too. For travelers that want to get away from the cold, modern hotel feel, this is the perfect place. Breakfast is served two doors down, with GGH hosting afternoon tea — both are great options for kicking off your day. Staff is warm and helpful, and of course who can forget the resident cat, who will warm up to you after a night or two.
If you arrive after hours, you’ll want to stop by the Cornell (their partner hotel) first. This could have been better communicated.

The Victorian look was very charming and as advertised. Our room fit the requested 3 persons and was clean, but I was surprised it did not have its own bathroom. Your employees very professional and helpful.
It was not advertised that it would be a community bathroom. Our room was located in the basement so the pipes would make a banging noise when in use. We had the fortunate incident of being locked out because the lock was broken, short inconvenience before a locksmith was called to fix.

A trip back in time! Lovely accomodations and wonderful staff! Less than a block walk to the sister hotel for an amazing breakfast. Great location! Skittles, the cat, is an adorable icon of the estate.
The hotel was perfect. Our only issue at all was the significant price gouging by the parking garage across the street.

Convenient to walking around San Francisco; the breakfast was included and provided at its sister hotel); loved Skittles the cat! Having a shared fridge was nice to keep extra food. The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean with nice towels.
Would have like ability to mirror my iPad/laptop to TV. Said it was possible but never worked. Wish breakfast had real oatmeal--not packaged.

Great location, we used the parking garage across the street. Breakfast was good. It felt like staying in my grandmother's house rather than a hotel, I mean that in a good way. I also love being able to travel with my dog. It was a comfortable stay.
I didn't love the shared bathroom, but it was in the description. Otherwise it was great.

I liked that it was a small hotel with fewer guests. It was quiet and easy to get to our room. The location was perfect and right in the middle of the places we visited. It was fun to have the provided breakfast at the french hotel next door.
It was pricey, that's why we could only afford to stay one night. We joined our party at another hotel for two more nights where we had a group rate.

Our room was lovely, a king with bathroom. I am not sure about temperature regulating but we were very cold and then realized the windows were open.
The breakfast at the sister hotel down the street was sufficient though it seemed that only one person was working...clearing tables, bringing out additional food, dishes, etc. so there was a wait for each. No problems, just a remark.
I was worried about what the hotel would be like but it was charming because of its antique elevator, no two rooms alike, etc. the young people working the desk were very accommodating by storing our luggage until checkin time and good at checkout.
First impression is very important. That being said, I would suggest washing and polishing the entry steps so new guests get a better feeling how clean the inside might be!

We liked it! It’s cute, charming, and provides a fun experience of living in a true Edwardian-style home - you’ll feel like you’re in the early 1900s SF. Location is convenient and walkable (if you don’t mind some inclines). Friendly staff.
We went to breakfast at the sister hotel around 9am, and it was a bit messy. It was hard to find a clean, available table (the only tables without people had dirty dishes from previous guests) and we had to ask for clean plates and food (trays were empty). The food was generally good, so perhaps you’ll have a better experience if you go on the earlier side.

Some rooms have shared bathrooms, the bottom floor bathroom would be very difficult for tall people (good thing I am not too tall, ha ha).

Loved the property and the coziness of it. The mattresses we a bid springy, definitely time for a replacement there but everything else was great! Loved the keys access and the flexibility to go to their sister hotel for later check ins. Will definitely be visiting again!
Just that the parking was full by the time we got there and we had to park around the corner for $62, however that’s not necessary their fault it’s just San Francisco.

Staff was very kind. Skittles the cat was a joy to be around. The style of the place was old school and very cute. Great central location for me as I explored the sites of the city.
Breakfast was rather plain, I ended up skipping it most days.
