Disappointing
location
Have stayed many times at the chancellor, but my last stay my lower legs were bit by something in the bed… fleas or bedbugs. Will not stay at the chancellor again.

Pleasant
Location was great, water and apples and cookies in the lobby, staff was friendly.
The restaurant is closed, coffee machine was broken so I had to leave and spend 10.00 on coffee I didn’t plan for. Tv intermittently worked and randomly shut off and the heat was tricky to work and required use of a space heater in a certain section of the room to trigger the thermostat. Saw a man with his pants down outside and similar things so was a bit wary walking around

Wonderful
Everything! Hotel had complimentary coffee, cookies, water and fruit which was a really nice gesture.
it was really convenient, next to the metro station and cable car, walking distance to different areas etc
Lots of restaurants and shops nearby.
Room was big and comfortable

Wonderful
Lovely staff and value great for San Francisco. If you want old world charm, this is the place for you. Cookies, apples ,tea and coffee 24 hrs is a big plus. Good water pressure.
The beds in the twin room were not too comfortable for me, on rollers, and I found myself sliding around.With full or queen beds, that probrably would not happen.

A classic building, right on Union square. Old fashioned, not modern and fancy. Everything works and there's coffee and tea in the lobby 247.
The neighborhood is colorful and noisy, which I don't blame the hotel for at all, but anyone staying around Union square should know that. Single negative detail I noticed was a few long hairs in the bathroom, and I'm a short-haired fella. Seriously that's the one tiny detail I could find to complain about.

Location was great. Staff were friendly. Large walk-in closet.
Heating in the room was via a portable heating unit that you rolled out of the closet. Never felt comfortably warm at night as I didn’t want to leave it on. Very noisy with street sounds even on the 15th floor. Had to use earplugs.

The location is ideal. It's next to Union Square and public transportation is very close. We were able to get on the bus and go everywhere we wanted. There are several dining options nearby, along with a Walgreens.
The room was clean and comfortable and, inspite of being old, everything worked quite well. There was a fridge, but no microwave. There was however one in the lobby. The wifi worked well.
It was noisy, both from the street below and from the adjoining rooms. The cable cars were a constant, we didn't mind that, but lots of horns honking and other traffic noise. There is no AC but the ceiling fan helped. I didn't think it would be too warm in February but we kept that fan going most of the stay.

Location, location, location! Great!
BART, BIG BUS, museums, eateries, theater, TRADER JOE’S, all conveniently located nearby! Even a new DANDELION CHOCOLATE shop just opened on Powell (no need to walk to the Ferry Building).
And, SEARS FINE FOODS is neighboring the CHANCELLOR, which I liked!

Bed was unsleapable! Impossible. Like a hole. And elevator was out of order. One down one up. Waiting 15 min for it so I left hotel with my wife after 2 out of 4 nights

Good wifi, excellent location, nice view.
The hotel is a piece of history, just reading when it was built is interesting.
Staff were always friendly
The sound isolation is poor - my room actually had a locked door to the one next to it, I could hear all the dialogs.
There is no breakfast (this is not a secret), and breakfast at the restaurant next door is expensive - that said, there are great breakfast places if you're willing to walk 2 to 4 blocks.
