I am a very seasoned traveler, but somehow I had never been to the Lake District. WOW! It is so beautiful and our stay at Holbeck Ghyll made the whole experience perfect. Stunning location to fully appreciate the gorgeous landscape.
For me, it was perfect. I was looking for a place to chill out and recharge. I certainly got to do that. I don’t consider it a negative, but some people might. You must drive into Windermere, too far to walk.

We loved the location of the country inn. We stayed in lovely rooms. Our suite was very special and we loved having the extra balcony. The views from the house and our rooms were exceptional. We loved having a full breakfast every morning.
We reserved and had dinner in the inn our first night there. The dinner was served nicely, but the food was not very good. We were expecting exceptional food at such a lovely country inn and place. In Room 1, we had a steady audio buzz sound from our speakers we could not turn down or off which affected our sleep.

Location
We were in one of the lodges, beautiful view. Lodge had a Kitchenette we were told we could cooked if we wanted to, but every cupboard empty, no plates, pans, cutlery etc etc. also looked very dated. Bathroom also dated & not overly clean.
We were asked if our stay was a special occasion which it was (our wedding day) but nothing special added or no mention of it so not sure why they emailed to ask!

Our stay at the hotel was fantastic the staff were lovely,the views from the hotel were breathtaking to top it all we had a fly past by the red arrows who were on there way to Scotland .we will definitely stay at this hotel again.

The views (of the lake, mountains...) and sounds (of the running water in the Ghyll) made the setting of Holbeck Ghyll idyllic. Ian took care of us so well with plenty of suggestions of areas to explore. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Best sleep in a long time too!

The view we had from our particular room was breathtaking while the outside gardens are well looked after, the breakfast was very good and nicely cooked. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed a good night’s sleep. Room was cleaned and tidied each day.
Room was a bit tired looking with a marked carpet needs a bit of TLC, but strangest thing was with such a big bedroom there was no wardrobe facility just a small cupboard in the bathroom. Some of the staff were a bit abrupt.

We travelled mid week and weren't made aware the restaurant was closed, drove directly to accommodation when we could have stopped on the way for a meal had this been communicated.
