I had 6 people for dinner and the food was excellent
We could hear everything in the next adjoining room through the badly sound proofed adjoining doors and we couldn’t get to sleep.
As I had a long drive the following morning this wasn’t good and spoiled some of my stay

Dinner was excellent - good food, surroundings and service.
Breakfast was a rip-off. I booked room only and then booked for breakfast when arrived. Menu highlighted that for £16.95 (they said the charge was £14.95) I could have a choice from the lighter side of the menu. (£5 extra for larger breakfast like full English.) Thought that was pretty cheeky but was ok with lighter side and thought I'd have porridge followed by bacon and eggs. Then I realised it was literally one choice - I could have either but not both. £16.95 (or £14.95) for a bowl of porridge. I highlighted that I'd not ever stayed in a hotel where they did this. I should have been able to order what I liked for that price. The young waiter went to speak to someone who turned out to be the receptionist who didn't budge. I spoke to her and she didn't have any inclination to discuss or recognise just said she'd take the breakfast charge off my bill. So I left on an empty stomach to a conference where I was speaking and didn't have anything to eat until stopped at services when driving home later that afternoon. I won't stay there again knowing what an expensive rip-off their breakfast is.

Excellent rooms in the private lodge
The evening meal was nothing special at all and certainly not the home made standard they claim the food to be.
The external of the property needs work, especially the car park which was effectively rubble.

Location was gorgeous. Gardens were lovely and bed was comfortable and clean.
When we checked in they asked for over £1000 for the bill. It got corrected to £149 .The staff weren't over-friendly. Receptionists didn't say hello as we came and went past the desk.
On the day of departure, we got a knock on the door asking if they could check the room over. Never had that before. We are a mother and daughter - 80 and 59 years old- hardly likely to wreck a room! The hotel is shabby and needs a good lick of paint and an update. The window frame was filthy, and there was a cob web hanging from it. The fire alarm went off at 2am. There was no apology when we checked out.
