Pleasant
The staff at The George Hotel were very polite, professional and helpful throughout our stay. The room was clean and spacious, and the bathroom was equally clean. The hotel is also conveniently located close to the city centre, making it a good location for exploring the area.
However, there were a few issues that affected our overall experience. The hotel room window opened directly onto a flat roof, as did the windows of other nearby buildings. This meant that my husband and I did not feel comfortable leaving the window open at night because of the potential risk of someone gaining access through it. Consequently, adequate ventilation was difficult to achieve.
The window was partially covered by the curtains. We raised this with reception, and the staff kindly assisted in adjusting them, which improved the situation to about three-quarters coverage.
The most concerning issue, however, was the very strong and unpleasant smell coming from the hotel drains. The odour was quite off-putting and needs to be addressed as a matter of hygiene, health and safety. I would strongly recommend that the hotel investigate and resolve the drainage issue.
Overall, despite the helpful staff, cleanliness and convenient location, these issues affected our stay. I would rate the hotel 6/10.

Wonderful
The rooms were very comfortable and clean. And the location is perfect for a visit in Oxford
The main reception was a bit cramped and small, and the stairs to get to it seemed a bit uninviting. However that’s me nitpicking

Very Poor
Please avoid this accommodation. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had.
We booked a room for four nights, but after just ONE night we had to leave, despite having already paid for the entire stay. The main reason was the extreme noise coming from the industrial ventilation systems located directly behind the hotel.
We barely managed to sleep for two hours that night. With the window closed, the room becomes unbearably hot, making it impossible to sleep. However, if you open the window, the noise from the ventilation systems is so loud that it is simply impossible to rest. Even with the windows closed, the noise can still clearly be heard inside the room.
The condition of the room was also very disappointing. The furniture is extremely old, the headboard of the bed was dirty, and the wardrobe is practically unusable.
The bathroom fixtures are rusty and look poorly maintained.
The smell in the staircase was absolutely awful and made the whole place feel dirty and neglected.
We paid for four nights and ended up leaving after only one because we simply could not sleep or stay there comfortably.
Having to pay for a room that you cannot actually sleep in is completely unacceptable.
We strongly recommend avoiding this accommodation, especially the rooms at the back of the hotel.

Wonderful
Excellent location to train station, attractions and eateries. Lovely, clean and tidy room. Staff went out of their way to assist. The room was quiet as requested, and had a fan. The hotel was family friendly. We really enjoyed our stay.

Location was good
Riddled with bedbugs, fortunately was only staying one night but was absolutely covered in bites and ended up quite ill as a result.

I needed to make a booking at the very last minute and the staff could not have been more accommodating (literally!) with meeting needs at a late hour of the night and with no notice. The hotel is also ideally situated in central oxford.

Poor
The location
The room is far too small, very cramped with a camp bed, which I had to pay another £30 for, on top of £249 for one night, could have gone on a caravan holiday for 4 nights for that price and had a bigger bedroom Won't stay again, the price way too high. Plus a load of steps to get up to the reception . Walked past the place when we got there, had to use Google maps to find it as too small.

Disappointing
The entrance wasn’t very inviting. A bed and mattress stuffed into a cupboard and smelled very musty. The rooms were clean but the plug got stuck in the sink. Was fixed but the sink then leaked. The location was perfect.
