We loved everything about the property. The location right on the Thames is incredible. But, the most impressive thing at Sea Containers is the staff. On a scale of 1-10, I’d give them a 20.

Great location. Gordon Ramsey restaurant is fabulous.
The service experience fell short of what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. Reception staff were not consistently friendly or engaging, and there was little effort made to welcome my 10-year-old child. Simple touches commonly found in comparable luxury hotels, such as children's robes or a small welcome gesture, were noticeably absent. Compared with experiences at hotels such as The Westin, the service felt less personalized and attentive. Furthermore, breakfast queues at weekends were excessively long, suggesting that restaurant capacity may not have been adequately managed, particularly if non-resident diners are being accommodated alongside hotel guests. I tried to ring reception multiple times and received no answer. Face cloths provided on the first day but not replaced on the subsequent mornings.

Great location on South Bank and very clean and great looking hotel both inside and out. Staff were really helpful and attentive. Would like to mention in particular Macy on front desk, great customer service with a smile. Something to mention, and this is by no means detrimental, when we got to our room it was an accessible room, we had no issue with that, but just in case you get to your room and see it’s setup for accessibility, this can happen. We did check with reception that we weren’t taking someone’s room who may require it. They did say that they have a lot of accessible rooms hence this can occur, which is a great thing.

Very modern hotel. Excellent location. We enjoyed exploring Southbank and public transport/Blackfriars Station were close by. The room was clean, modern and comfortable enough (but see comments below).
Not really a 5* experience in our opinion, despite the high price. We also stayed in a 4* hotel across the river earlier in our trip and felt that that one was superior. We wonder how many rooms actually have a river view, as our corridor, and presumably most on other floors, seemed to run perpendicular to the river. Not that our booking promised a river view. We merely looked over an adjacent building, so no real view other than a partial glimpse of London Eye. The room was quite small (modern spartanism) with limited space for our bags. The bed was quite small, barely queen size. The booked superior room was claimed to have a "large double bed" , so for 5* we expected a wider bed. The Gordon Ramsey restaurant had limited food offerings - nothing special that seemed to reflect his reputation. I checked our final bill carefully and found additional service charges had been added for accommodation and breakfast, but booking.com stated that all charges and taxes were included in the booked price. These extra charges were then removed by reception without argument.

Location was perfect. The hotel had this sensational dark and moody (in a good way) feel due to the interior design. The room was really nice. The staff were very responsive to any request.
Would love a top sheet instead of just a doona but that is probably just an Australian thing. When we asked for one the staff were only too happy to provide one.

Sea Containers has become something of a home from home for us in London. We stay regularly, often for longer stays for work, and there is honestly very little not to like about the hotel itself.
We particularly love the balcony suites. They are modern and comfortable, with a proper separate sitting room and bedroom, good-sized bathrooms, excellent storage and cupboard space, a fridge and even two toilets! For a longer working stay, having that separation and space makes an enormous difference.
What really stands out, though, is the team at the hotel. The front-of-house and concierge staff are consistently warm, helpful and genuinely make us feel looked after. On this stay, when there had been an error with our room booking, the team did everything possible to resolve it and were extremely apologetic.
One of the managers also very kindly took care of some drinks and snacks while we were working, without even telling us at the time. It was such a thoughtful gesture and genuinely made us feel valued as regular guests. We tried to find him before we left to thank him personally, but unfortunately he was off that day. I hope he sees this — thank you. It really was appreciated.
It is gestures like that, and the consistently fantastic hotel team, that keep us coming back.
Unfortunately, the booking department doesn’t provide the same experience as the team at the hotel.
This was the third time there had been an issue with our room booking. We stay for work and always explain that we need a balcony suite with a separate sitting room and bedroom rather than a studio-style suite. On this occasion that had been specifically confirmed to us in writing, but the information wasn’t communicated correctly to the hotel and the right room hadn’t been reserved.
We were staying for nine nights and eventually had to move rooms on day four, which meant we couldn’t properly unpack and settle in for almost half our stay. The hotel team handled the problem brilliantly, but they shouldn’t repeatedly have to resolve booking errors that aren’t of their making.
There was another frustrating experience before we booked. The reservations team said they would match the Booking.com price if we booked directly. I explained that I receive benefits/credit through Booking.com, so there needed to be some reason to book directly — either a slightly better deal or perhaps breakfast included. They declined and actually suggested that I book through Booking.com instead.
That seemed a strange commercial decision for a regular guest staying nine nights. The hotel presumably incurs a cost when a reservation comes through a third-party platform, whereas some of that value could have been used to enhance a direct booking and build goodwill with a repeat customer.
Ironically, because of the room error, the hotel team subsequently included breakfast for us anyway. We only used it about three times, so its monetary value wasn’t really the point. The contrast in approach was: the reservations experience felt transactional, while the people actually running the hotel made us feel genuinely valued.
We will absolutely stay at Sea Containers again because we love the hotel and its team.
