It had a fun and young atmosphere perfect for myself and my friends.
It would’ve been helpful to have a bath mat or something as the shower resulted in soaking the entirety of the bathroom floor.

Clean and modern building. Calm atmosphere. Comfortable bunkbeds, lovely staff, and good location. Good availability of parking - and great value for 24 hours.
A bit noisy from the adjacent train line, although we quickly became accustomed to it - had to keep window open because it was very warm.

There are 2 'main' hostels in the central of different hassle and bustle areas of Manchester and I have stayed in both. Pros and cons in both while the price is compatible. YHA is situated in a notably quieter and scenic area. Staff was friendly and helpful, with bar opens till 2am! The kitchen was pristine clean and organised, not cluttered, as is the communal area.
Corridor doors and bedroom doors can't be closed without noise. So if you're staying close to the corridor door, you probably can't avoid the noise constantly in the morning and night. Ventilation is not great in the room, and it can get rather stuffy and hot in a shared room in the summer (likely from June-August). Even though a fan is offered, it's noisy when it's on. Would be ideal to have curtains for each bed like the 'younger' hostels, for privacy. Maybe something for YHAs to consider.

The meal is really good for its price. The room is really quiet. Outside is the canal, beautiful view.
The locker doesn't have a lock–you need to bring your own or buy from the reception. 4 pounds. We didn't figure out how to close the window–it is sometimes noisy outside at late night.
