This was my second time staying with the a&o brand after Budapest, and I'm once again very happy. The double room was comfortable. The location is the biggest plus; it's situated right near Oxford Road and Piccadilly stations. We didn't even need public transport as we walked everywhere. Great choice for travelers.
Everything was as expected for a budget-friendly stay.

fridge. bath. window that opens. clean room. good breakfast. location is perfect. car park ideal so close. lifts that work.
the app needs a lot of work. booking breakfast in advance wasn't possible as when trying to book manchester it defaults to Edinburgh. you might want to check that out.

Location
Room smelt of smoke. Staff were very unhelpful and unorganised. Tried charging more than what we had booked via booking.com. Told me to come back at checkout to settle, but instead came knocking at 9pm after running a marathon and had 2 sleeping children.

This is a former ibis/Novotel which is now run explicitly as a hostel. As a result, my room (I was in "House 1" -- there are several different parts) was of an excellent standard. All the furnishings, including the bathroom, and the bed, were quite new and in a good modern style. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was great. There was even a sofa, and, very importantly, a fridge (an unexpected win over Premier Inn). The location cannot be beaten: Right in the middle of the city. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
There was no kettle, but I knew that from the descriptions and reviews, so I brought my own. Somewhat disappointingly, it turned out they didn't have a pressing board and iron to borrow -- the lady at the reception explained "we now run as a hostel, and the prices are very low", which was of course true, but still somewhat surprising for a property that lists itself as a four star. The lobby and rooms were in a very good condition but the hallways on the upper floors looked tired. The AC was a little difficult to control, and it wasn't 100% quiet even after being turned off.

I went in with 'hostel' expectations but the room felt like a hotel and the value for money was very impressive. Staff were all friendly and the location was perfect. Room was perfectly clean and I appreciate the commitments to environmental sustainability.
The check-in QR code process is a little awkward, especially when multiple people are trying to check in at once. I got the impression staff were also not a fan of the system!

It is so warm in the hotel and the rooms are unbareable we was sleeping without a duvet in April I dread to think what it is like in the summer and the breakfast buffet was poor

Excellent value for money. Was sceptical what the facilities would be like for the price, but the hotel was so much nicer than I thought it would be. This is the second time I have stayed at the hotel.
