Disappointing
I originally found the staff to be friendly, but after a telephone call to the hotel today, I have just changed my mind and my review. With the outcome that we wouldn't consider booking this hotel again. The location of the hotel, is within walking distrance of the places we wanted to visit (Manchester Cathedral and John Ryling library). There are plently of restaurants and bars, near the hotel - which is useful as I was advised not to eat dinner in the restuarant, by a member of staff. So I didn't have dinner, but we did have breakfast in the morning - while the choice was limited, it was warm and the food was nice. Our Room (210) has alot of light (corner room with three windows), its a good size and generally clean if outdated. They provide tea and coffee. We did find the lack of bedside lamps a real pain and you can't turn the bathroom light off (so it stayed on all night). The bathroom is clean with good sized towels and shower gel, but we could really smell beach within this room upon arrival and there were watermarks on the bathroom wall. During the evening, we experienced some noise from other rooms and the corridor, but this did stop during the night and we didn't have issues with traffic noise. There is limited car parking (Cost £18) - Please see below.
There is no entrance from the car park directly into the hotel, so you have to walk along the canel and up a number of steps, to reach the main entrance. This will cause issues for some guests and can be a pain with luggage, when raining. Their car park is shared with a leisure club (seperate business?), but the hotel charges its guests £18 a day. Within 15minutes of arriving (around 10.15am), one of leisure club members, had hit my car and caused damage by my wheel arch. I immediately reported this to the receptionist and did receive an half hearted apology - but no offer to refund the £18 parking fee - paid only minutes before. I phoned the hotel today and asked to be put through to a manager (to be told no-one could take my call). While speaking to Jamie - I tried to highlight that as the carpark isnt very big, it is unsafe when leisure guests bomb around, trying to get a parking space at speed before their class. But Jamie claimed that the only issues in 2 years, as a bike that was stolen, damage to a lamppost and our issue? But upon leaving the hotel, yesterday we watched another two leisure guests driving without regard, around the carpark, so this appears to be normal behaviour for these members. The lady who hit my car, originally tried to say it was our fault as our car was slightly parked at an angle, but we had to park that way as the cars on either side had been parked at an angle. The member admitted, was that she was rushing to get her young daughter to class and wasn't paying attention as she pulled into the space. Jamie claimed. that I had downplayed and laughed the matter off - which is partly true. By luck I had returned to my car, just after it happened and got the the persons details. But Jamie - I had only just arrived and this was the first time, we had managed to get away since my partner cancer treatment. My call today was to address the issues and you didn't want to listen about series concerns.

The bedroom was clean. The bathroom shower was very easy to use and operate effortlessly
I didn't like as there was no plugs on the other side of the bed next to the window to charge my phone. It would be good to be able to charge the phone next to the ved.

Fantastic hotel. Friendly staff, clean room and very decent breakfast. Brilliant gym and pool on site are a real bonus.

I know this is a charitable hotel but for the money the room was much more basic than I expected, tired, and shabby, The lighting was all over the place, we couldn't isolate the bedside lights, and one bulb wasn't working, The bathroom lights had a mind of their own, we had to bath in the dark,
