The location is excellent and was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel. The building itself has beautiful historic character and a grand atmosphere, which is exactly what I was looking for when I wanted to make my son’s first visit to London special.
After a very disappointing first room, the fourth-floor room we were eventually given completely changed our experience. It was bright, clean, spacious and welcoming, with beautiful large windows and a lovely view of the historic building opposite. Most importantly, the sound insulation was excellent. Despite being close to the elevator and facing Trafalgar Square, we had virtually no disturbance from the elevator, corridors or other guests during our five-night stay. Of course, we could occasionally hear normal city sounds such as ambulances, police or live music from Trafalgar Square, but that never affected our sleep. We actually slept very well, and I think this is an important positive point for future guests.
The breakfast was also good, around 8/10 for us. The breakfast room itself is beautiful, elegant and has a wonderful historic atmosphere. Most of the staff we encountered were pleasant, helpful and hardworking.
Overall, once we had the right room, we genuinely enjoyed the rest of our stay. The hotel has a lot of character, an exceptional location and some rooms and staff that are genuinely very good.
I stayed for 5 nights and unfortunately our stay began very disappointingly. Immediately after entering the room, I was struck by a very strong, penetrating smell of artificial air freshener, that it seemed to be masking the underlaying smell of the old furniture and carpet. The room felt old and poorly maintained, and there was visible mould in the bathroom. The windows could not be opened, and one appeared damaged. Regardless of any personal requirements, I found the condition of the room unacceptable for a four-star hotel. I felt immediately uncomfortable and physically unwell, with a headache and I genuinely questioned how this could be considered a four-star room.
The receptionist was professional and helpful and showed me several alternatives. I finally accepted a much much better room on the fourth floor. However, I feel the hotel should have apologised or offered a small gesture. We had to move at around 5pm, waking my tired son and losing much of our first day dealing with something that simply should not have happened in a four-star hotel. The problem was solved, but nobody can give us that first day back.
The biggest issue throughout the hotel was inconsistency. From what I personally saw on floors 4, 5, 7 and 9, there was a significant difference between renovated and non-renovated areas. Some rooms are beautiful and well maintained, while others look very dated, with older carpets, furniture and fittings. I expect that despite the category room in size, the basic standard of maintenance and presentation should be consistent throughout the hotel. I added some pictures of the Club Room we were initially given, which genuinely shocked me in terms of its appearance and condition, especially considering that we paid almost EUR 1,300 for five nights. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of the beautiful upgraded room we stayed in for the rest of our trip.

Brilliant location, very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, comfortable room.
Air conditioning was loud and not very effective. Fortunately weather was cooler so didn’t matter too much.

The room was comfortable with a little seating area. 9th floor was quiet. Location was excellent. Breakfast was good.
The bed was too soft for us.

Location was convenient to reach all major attractions, so we could maximize sightseeing time in London given we only had a short stay. Club facilities were appreciated too! Staff were polite and accommodated our requests.
