I am staying at St Martins Lane the last 25 years. I would expect that would be appreciated and rewarded with a room upgrade. Sometimes it is is, sometimes it’s not. This time it wasn’t.

The hotel is in a great location, the rooms are modern and have great facilities
We had breakfast included on our booking and we got challenged 3 times at breakfast and then had to show our booking.com booking at reception. They sorted it out, but the trip was for my partners birthday and this was a little embarrassing and not particularly well handled at first. I had also selected that this booking was for a birthday and it would have been nice for this to be recognised at check in to make the stay more special - £300 per night midweek at the start of January means you should expect small extra touches. Everything else was great.

The staff were excellent from the minute you entered the hotel. They were more than willing to help and assist. The location was excellent so convenient for the heart of London and in particular Theatreland.
The room was excellent, full of well considered extra essentials.
Although the room was excellent, there were a couple of issues. The aircon was very poor, it didn't feel like it was working yet it was. Bedside tables would be useful instead of using the ledge behind the bed which isn't really practical. Plus there was a shortage of towel racks (ie for getting out of the shower or to store for later use)
This is not a criticism but the mini bar was so well stocked it didn't provide any space for anything that the guests would like to store themselves. I appreciate it is a customary source of revenue for the hotel but the pricing of some of the items were a tad high and not typically a high demand item.

The food and drink and the very comfy bed.
Some of the staff were a bit cold, bordering on rude. This was balanced by other staff who were very friendly and helpful. A mixed bag.

I couldn’t see any external signage - that’s strange and neither could the cab driver! That’s not a complaint and maybe they don’t want “walk ins”!

Location & carpark underneath.
Staff morale seemed very low, we felt very uncomfortable.
The rooms have a bizarre system of louvre blinds within the double glazed unit that are not controllable. Ideal if you don't want natural light or to look out of your window.
The rooms are nice, but staff are obviously having some sort of problem, maybe this comes from the top ?
Overall massively disappointed.
It is a real shame, happy staff & replacement of the louvre blinds would help.
